Hello everyone wanted to ask a simple question. I will be in India next month and will be visiting Agra to see the Taj Mahal. And I was wondering since the temperatures get so hot - are you allowed to wear shorts at the Taj Mahal ???? Any info would be helpful .....thanks... Jlanza29

While shorts may not be standard attire for locals, it is not a problem for foreigners.

I recommend visiting as early as possible before the heat of the day really starts to make the place an oven!

I like people who ask about suitability of attire, it shows a respect for the places and people they are visiting.

As a man reasonable length shorts will be fine anywhere in India with loose cotton shirts ideal on top. Ladies should avoid anything skimpy and close fitting and I like to carry a cotton sarong as a quick emergency cover up.

You will see example of tourists who get it wrong everywhere. I think the locals are far too polite to say anything unless it is really bad. This is a shame because I think it's rather insulting to our hosts not to conform to what they consider decent.

You will love the Taj Mahal, just as beautiful close up as from a distance. Enjoy.

shorts are cool....

August may not be considered as the month of Heat rather than it may be considered as a mix of rain/cloudy, slight humidity & cool nights. Day may be sunny but if it is sunny, it will increase heat/humidity...no doubt.....it's pure luck..I mean in short....it's the month for change of season and a particular day may be different from the other.

Regarding Shorts.....absolutely there is no problem....it's upto u how u feel comfortable but it's always better not to wear "Too Catchy" clothes in order to avoid unnecessary attention.

Taj is really fantastic and I am sure, u will like it....Go n enjoy.
