Plitvicka Jezera National Park Travel Forum

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to visit Croatia by first stopping at Zagreb and then continue my journey to the southern part. I learned that all buses from Zagreb to Zadar stop at Plitvice, but is it possible to visit Plitvice park for the day on the way to Zadar. I heard that full buses will not pick up passengers, so what if I can't get on the bus all the way to Zadar? or is it better to sleep in the park?

and I heard that there are 2 entrances, Ulaz jedan and Ulaz Dva.I wanna skip the St.4 route and visit St.3->St.2->St.1 (lower lake,which entrance you will recommend me to get in the park? And when I return, which stop is more easily for me to get on a bus to Zadar?

I have to totally rely on public transportation because my wallet as well as the driving license has been stolen...poor me..

You can spend 3-6 hours in the plitvichke park.there is a post office,near the entrance, you can go into the park and see the busses from zagrep or split.( it takes 2 hours from Zagrep to park,driver helps you) there is a little motel near the entrance. And you can find other hotels/motels around the park area too.

Not all buses from Zadar to Zagreb stop at the Plitvice national park, some services stay on the motorway all the way. So make sure to ask before you board one.

Most buses between Zagreb and the coast now take the motorway and don't pass through Plitvice.
There are still some buses that pass there, but they are not as frequent as they used to be once.
(The good thing for you is the fact that buses taking the old road through Plitvice are the slow ones and not as popular as the faster buses; so most likely you won't have troubles finding an empty seat).

You can search bus timetables at www.akz.hr (write "Plitv" in the search box and select "Plitvi(c)ka jezera" from the drop-down menu.) The last bus to Zadar seems to leave at 17.23.

Re. entrances - it is basically the same. You can enter at Entrance One and take the Blue route, or enter at Entrance Two and take the Yellow route. They are basically the same, just go in opposite directions. My personal opinion is that waiting for a bus is somewhat better at Entrance Two.

One final suggestion. Please leave some time to go to the info centre, ask for the complaints book and write a few lines about the difficulties individual tourists using the public transport face when trying to visit the Park. I write to them every year, the difficulties are described in every guidebook and the Park management still ignores the subject. All they should do is a small bus station with a couple of platforms, bus shelter and an information panel. We don't expect them to introduce some sci-fi features like online bus ticket reservation system.....

thanks for your responses! it's so helpful! I'll first stop at entrance one and leave the park at entrance two to "try" to get on any buses to Zadar! I'm not sure which bus is going to Zadar, so I better stop every bus coming to me....right???

I'll definitely write something about the transportation on the guidebook, but I doubt if that would help....anyways, thanks a lot!
