| Guangzhou | Bus or Train from Hongkong Int'l airport to Guangzhou Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 01:40 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Guangzhou next month and I would like to know how do I get to Guangzhou from Hongkong Int'l airport. I was told I can take the bus from the airport, but what if I decide to take the train instead? Will it be easier? How do I get to the train station from the airport? Do I need to take a taxi or bus to get to the train station? Thanks!

I’m sure that coach is the easiest option and at least as quick as the train because you would need to go into Hung Hom station to pick up a direct train. There is another route but this involves changing trains at Shenzhen and walking across the border and stuff.
If you really don’t like coaches there are numerous other options including: flying, taking the hydrofoil or an overnight steamer service that takes 8 hours but is the most interesting. Have a look at this discussion: www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1476756

You could go by the Airport Express (orange line) from the airport to Central (110 HKD), take the Tsuen Wan line (red) to Tsim Sha Tsui, change to the light blue KCR line to Hung Hom. From there you could get on a train going directly to Guangzhou. There's quite a lot of walking involved at Central and Tsim Sha Tsui (going to Tsim Sha Tsui East) stations, but they're easily managed with rolling luggage or backpacks.

My friends and I found travelling by train via Shenzhen is the most convenient method for us. For your reference:
1) From HK int'll airport, follow the directions to their bus terminal, just next to the airport. Look for Airbus A43 bus lane and queue for the bus. 2)Bus fare HKD$28, take the bus to Shang Shui bus station. Takes about an hr. You may ask other friendly commuters to remind you where to alight. Alot of people will be alighting at that station anyway. After you alight, behind is the MTR station. Again, follow the crowd or ask around if you can't see the station. 3)At the MTR station, by ticket from Shang Shui to Luohu. 4) Once you reach Luohu, go thru HK immigration. 5) Follow the crowd, go thru Shenzhen immigration. (short distance only) 6) Walk to Shenzhen train station (walking distance, minutes away, look for signboards for directions). (Note: There is a Shenzhen MRT station there. THAT's not where you should be going.) Buy a train ticket from Shenzhen to Guangzhou. They have tickets to Guangzhou train station and Guangzhou East station. Regards

I used to get into HK at about 6 am in the morning, I will take a taxi to the Hung Hum railroad station and catch the first express train to Guangzhou East station. About 2 hours airport to Guangzhou East.
If you want to take the bus there are direct bus from airport to the old China Hotel in Guangzhou, about 3 1/2 hour trip.
