| Brussels | Two-day visit in Brussels - any suggested itinerary please? Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 08:17 AM UTC
I've been with a group when I visited Belgium for the first time. I intend to visit Brussels in September and I would need tips from fellow VTers. I don't mind taking the public transportation from one place to the other and I'd love to go to the museums, parks, sit in cafes and eat cakes in between strolls and visits. I welcome any suggestion! Thank you and have a nice day!

Hi Penelope,
On the Grand Place there's 'Het Broodhuis', opposit to the Mayers. In the Broodhuis you find the Brussels Historical Museum. All interesting info about the history about Brussels. In my opinion a must see. Have a nice time in Brussels peter

Would be useful to know where you are staying. You can take the hop-on, hop-off buses from outside the central station (which go all the way out to the Chinese Pavilion and Japanese Tower and to the Atomium), or at weekends there is a vintage Museum Bus (line BM) which I think starts at the comic strip museum and passes by Gare centrale, Place Royale (surrounded by half a dozen museums) and the Natural History Museum in Ixelles before ending at the Cinquantenaire (Mérode metro station). Alternatively, the 27 bus from the Sablon (starts at Gare du Midi and passes through the Marolles) also passes by Place Royale and Mérode.
If you want to combine museums and parks, go to the Cinquantenaire, where you can go up to the top of the archway from inside the (free) military museum - follow signs to the panorama, and avoid lunchtime when the museum closes - and/or the Africa Museum, which you can reach by 44 tram from Montgomery metro station, it's a nice ride out through the forest and the Museum is surrounded by a park. I highly recommend the Musical Instrument Museum, which is housed in a wonderful building and has a rooftop café, though the cafés at the BelVue Museum (you can enter by the back door on Place Royale) and the Ancient Arts Museum are better for food. Bear in mind that most museums are closed on Mondays. The best place in Brussels for waffles (afternoon tea) is Dandoy in rue de l'Etuve opposite the Amigo Hotel, one block from the Grand' Place.
