| Singapore | Travelling from Beijing to Singapore by train Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 01:15 AM UTC
Hi there, I hope someone can save me from the nightmare that I'm having trying to find a company that deals with booking an overnight train from China to Singapore. I will name my first born after you, if you can supply a link to a web site where I can book a ticket, or give me a rough idea of the cost. I'm looking to travel somewhere between the 1-3 of novemeber.
Many thanks for any help you can give me. |

Sorry but it's not possible. Even if you were to travel continuously from Beijing south towards Singapore by train, you would have to change many times. And from Johor Barau in Malaysia you'd have to take a bus into Singapore.
Did you mean an overnight train perhaps from Beijing to Shanghai? There are lots of overnight trains there.

There is no way you can get a direct train from China to Singapore. Even if you were to change at several places, it will take at least a week to reach by train and I will say it is more than adventurous. If you are too keen to travel by train, I will recommend to fly from China to Bangkok and then take a train from Bangkok (Thailand) to Buttersworth in Malaysia. This will take more than 24 hrs and the website for booking is http://www.ktmb.com.my/ (Malaysian railways website). In this train, there will be an immigration check at Thailand-Malaysia border point by both Thailand and Malaysian immigration authorities. From Buttersworth, you will have to change to another train, which will take you to Singapore. In this train, there will be an immigration check at Malaysia Singapore border point by Singapore authorities. This journey will be for 14 hrs. You have to use the same Malaysian railway website for booking the tickets in this train too. You didnt specifiy which country you belong to. That would help me advice you on visa requirements. Assuming that you require visa to enter all the countires in SE Asia, you have to make the visa arrangements in advance to enter Malaysia. For thailand, the visa is available on arrival.
Another website that provides useful info on travelling by tains in Asia (and everywhere else in the world) is http://www.seat61.com My name is Brajesh, just in case you would like to name your...... (just jokin') BK
