Question Posted By: Replies:
What to do if digital camera memory card runs out in middle of Sahara? Sim / phone cards for Moroco?
Posted: Sat July 12, 2008 05:42 AM UTC
Very dumb question! will be travelling in backblocks of Morocco, not taking laptop to download photos because too much hassle. Suppose buying backup cards is only option??
ALSO is it best/cheaper to buy a SIM card while in Morocco or just buy phone cards to use at public phones?
Suppose internet cafes have skype access?? I'm clueless can anyone help?
THANKS!!!

Ask VT member angiebabe. She's a Morocco specialist :-)

the camera question is easy. bring multiple cards; they're cheap enough these days you should never run out. HOWEVER, don't buy online unless from the manufacturer. I use SANDISK Extreme exclusively and once needed a couple extra and went to an "popular auction site" only to get what looked real - wasn't and had a card fail in the Galapagos. As I back up daily to a portable hard drive nothing was lost but the card, but ... lesson learned. Don't scrimp on cards.

A portable disk drive is an answer, however the one I bought once was hellish slow, and quite expensive. Having several cards is the best answer.

Or find an internet cafe. Maybe not in the exact middle of any desert, but they are fairly ubiquitous, and cheap, and have card readers, so you can upload to somewhere.

Or go into a photoshop and get your card put onto cd. That's cheap enough. Two copies before you wipe your card. Post one back home to yourself.
