I will be spending 10 days in Seoul. I am thinking about getting a 3 day Korail pass. Would appreciate suggestions as to where to go for day train trips. The trips are more to enjoy the train ride. I would like to be able to travel a great distance, however would like to be able to return to Seoul in the evening.

If you get up early in the morning and don't mind getting in late in the evening, in all honesty almost everywhere in Korea can be done as a long-day trip.
For just watching the scenery out the window on the way down to Busan. You can tour a bit of Busan and then return. one-way is ~4 hours on the KTX. Seoul is on the northwest corner and Busan is on the south east. You can get no further way without boarding a ferry. Also, I would recommend Andong and the folk village. Andong is much closer to Seoul, but the routing and speed of the train would make it a similar time. If you are not wanting to really get out and explore the destination, but rather just sit back and enjoy the ride, try taking a train down the west coast, in direction of Mokpo.
