| Munich | Travel between Munich and Belgrade....HELP! :) Posted: Thu July 10, 2008 06:21 AM UTC
Hello,
I know i am asking for information a little early (traveling in december) but i always try to know as much as i can about what i am getting myself into. :) I will be arriving in Munich on December 9th and will be traveling to Belgrade using the cheapest means possible, only problem is that i don't know what those means are (yet). Bus?Train?Plane?Hitchhike? I was planning on renting a car in Munich, Germany and driving to Belgrade but it seems as though none of the agencies will allow you to cross the border into serbia with a rental car(not even for an additional fee). Any companies in germany that allow travel into serbia? Thanks! |

Besides, there is NO CAR to Serbia to rent in Munich. It's possible to find it in Budapest, but that is overkill since Budapest-Beograd is a mere 15 Euro by train (buy in bp only, not in Munich!)
Pretty fast and cheap variant: 1) Munich-Budapest. Will cost 29 Euro by overnight train. Very easy to book from the German Rail web site. IF the 29 Euro contingent is over, there are tickets for 39, 49 Euro. Normally several week in advance 29 Euro is not a problem. 2) Budapest-Belgrade is 15 Euro, you can use daytime train (it's the better one). Buy the ticket in Budapest, never in Munich, ask for "Beograd Special". The r/t is 26 Euro. I just used it today.

There are only two trains daily where the 29 Euro price is possible. Use the night train, buy the 29 Euro ticket and upgrade with Romanian sleeping car attendant for 30 Euro (negotiable!) to a sleeper. You will arrive BP in the early morning with plenty time to buy the 15 Euro ticket to BG.
For 6 Euro extra the Russian or Ukrainian (Russian is in better shape and more friendly attendants) sleeper will allow you to have privacy during the daytrip. Otherwise the seat reservation is 3 Euro. Obviously, 6 Euro (official price from RU conductor) is a much better deal.
