Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Madrid hotel in Madrid
Posted: Thu July 10, 2008 04:26 AM UTC
Hi-
I am looking for some suggestions on hotels in Madrid. We would like something centrally located for a great price. I have actually already asked this question and someone on the site gave me great recommendations, but the one I looked into (Hostal Adriano) did not work out and I don't have the rest of the suggestions they gave. So if you are on here I would love to have them again.
thanks!

I think FredMaine's reply to your previous request for Madrid hotels is what you want. It is at http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-354663-1-1-Travel-0-262020-Madrid-discussion.html

If you go to your own Home Page, click on "Latest Forum Postings" under your photo. It is your post dated June 25. If you can't find it let me know and I'll copy it here for you.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi! If the above tip doesn't work out try Venere.com or Bookings.com etc, which show properties on a map of Madrid, with ratings and comments by travellers that have stayed in the properties. I used these for my last trip to Madrid, where I got a double room for single use in a very good hotel-not central, but within easy reach by metro. I'm going to Madrid next week and again have found something suitable through Venere.
Have A Great Trip!

It might have been me that gave you the list. Here it is again...

Hostal Mirentxu
http://anas.worldonline.es/hmirentx/english/principal.htm
Double 35 Euros
Great location near Plaza Santa Ana, near wonderful restaurants in every price range. Next to Madrid’s most famous flamenco bar. Los Gabrieles is Spain’s most notorious brothel converted to a flamenco bar where historically Spain’s most celebrated authors, poets, painters and bullfighters gathered. For price and location this very basic place is my favorite cheap bed in Madrid.

Hostal Comercial
http://www.hostalcomercial.com/
Double with complete bath 45 Euros
Just one block from Plaza Mayor
What I like about this place is that all rooms are exterior; all rooms have a balcony. Also they have wireless internet.

La Perla Astoriana
http://www.perlaasturiana.com/
Double with complete bath 52
One block south of Plaza Mayor. Near Sobrino de Botin, the oldest restaurant in the world. This restaurant was the final scene in Earnest Hemingway’s Pulitzer Price winning novel The Sun Also Rises. Very touristy. For a more authentic (and less expensive) meal I suggest walking another two short blocks to Casa Lucia, among the King of Spain’s favorite restaurants.

Hostal Lido
http://www.hostallido.com/english/precios.php
Double 42
On the same small street as my favorite cheap bed, Hostal Mirentxu. A few Euros more, but you get a hair dryer and television in your room. All rooms have private bath. Also air conditioning.

Hostal Adriano
http://www.adrianohostal.com/ingles/index.html
Double with full bath 63
This is an astonishingly beautiful and colorful hostal. Near Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. This is the most expensive of my recommendations, but if you can afford to spend one night here you will never forget your stay. The rooms are large and elegant. Free ADSL internet. Satellite TV. Telephone. Fridge, Digital Safe, Hair Dryer. All rooms have private bathroom.

Hostal Bianco II
http://www.hostalbianco.com/Hostal_eng.htm
Double with complete bath 41-47
Another hostal on the same street as my favorite cheap bed, Hostal Mirentzu. Much larger rooms. TV, heat and air conditioning, telephone, etc. All rooms come with complete bathroom.

Hostal Horizonte
http://www.hostalhorizonte.com
Double with shared bath 40
Queen bed with private bath 55
This place has an interesting history. The owners gave refuge to fleeing French and Poles during WWII. It was also a favorite of musicians and artists. Bishops and priests stayed here while visiting the Church of San Sebastian located across the street. Bullfighters used to dress here before the bullfights at Las Ventas.

One update: Los Gabrieles, the flamenco bar next to Hostal Mirentxu, I've heard was sold to a real estate developer. What a shame!

I have some other recommendations that I'll send soon. Salud, Fred

Hi! Further to my previous reply, I stayed at Hostal Astoria last week - a 2* hotel on Carrera de San Jeronimo, which is off Sol, therefore handy for all the sights. I booked it through Venere.com and paid 48.15 euros ($76/ £38 )per night for a single en suite room.(my room- 519- was a twin room)Breakfast not included, but there are plenty of places nearby for breakfast. Coffee machine in hostal (50 cents). My room was very clean and comfortable. There was some building work going on, but they didn't start too early.
If you check my Madrid Hotels tips you can see pics and more info.
I hope this is of some use to you.
Have A Great trip, and please feel free to contact me for more info.
Best Wishes,
Sue x
