Copenhagen Traveling with "LUGGAGE"
Posted: Wed July 9, 2008 08:45 PM UTC
Hi ALL, my name is Faries and I am a new member with a question re transport in Copenhagen, from airport to my hotel near Central Train station. Train travel sounds ideal, but how convenient is it if I have 2 pieces of luggage? Getting on and off train, where to put luggage after I'm on train, is there ample seating for me and luggage, what about or if I had to stand? HELP!!!
What would be alternative "cheap" transport to hotel from airport?

I have not actually used that route but I have travelled quite a lot in Europe, Canada and the US by train - with more than two pieces of luggage - so I cannot imagine you will have any problem at all travelling by train in Copenhagen.
You could take a taxi to your hotel from the station.

Thank you Ranger 59.
So is there a person that keeps the doors open until you get on or off? I've never done this, but it appears the diffrence in cost, from taxi and train are "huge"

SORRY!! Ranger 49, I addressed you improperly (59 vs 49).
I will be arriving in Copenhagen on 7/15/08. So any "soon" reply from fellow or other members will help put my mind at ease. Thank you.

If you're boarding the train at the airport, rest assured that they are quite used to people heaving luggage onto the train. You won't have a problem. I've done it and I certainly don't recollect there being any difficulty.

I've done that route too. You can buy a ticket from a ticket machine but you can also buy a ticket from the counter where you can reserve a seat. You can put your luggage above the seats.
It's not a long journey. Depending on the train you take from Copenhagen's airport, it's 13 minutes or 21 minutes.

English journey planner:

Enter 'CPH' in the FROM box and 'Copenhagen' in the TO box.

I haven't done that particular route but, as others have said, it is entirely normal for people to travel with luggage on European trains (especially to/from airports), and they cope perfectly well.

If your bags are too heavy to put in the rack above your seat I expect there is also an area in each carriage where you can put them. ATLC??

Copy, Leics ;-)
At the time that we were travelling there was room in an empty seat beside us. For that short distance (13-20 mins), you could also choose to not go into a train compartment at all, but stay near the doors and stand with your luggage. It saves dragging your stuff around even more. You could go to the train attendant or some kindlooking Dane (they do exist!) if they can help you. English is widely spoken in Denmark.

Anyhow, as Leics says, it's no big deal to travel by train with luggage. The reason I have trouble remembering properly is that indeed it is so normal that I never give it a second thought if travelling (by train or otherwise) with luggage would be a problem. Btw... I had one big suitcase at the time.

luggage is no problem on that train stretch.
i travel that route with lugagge several times every month.
you have an area for luggage at the end of each train carriage and you have an overhead compartment too that is big enough to fit suitcases as long as they are not very large.
the train doors are automatic so you need noone to hold them.
there are escalators from the train platforms to the station too.
