Boracay Island Daves Straw Hat Inn
Posted: Wed July 9, 2008 07:06 PM UTC
Does anyone have any experience with this Resort?
Daves Straw Hat Inn in Boracay.

Is this hotel far away from the main area for restaurants and shopping or is it nearby? can I walk there or do I need to take a taxi?

How far is the beach from this resort?
Are there private beach chairs? or how does this work

What is the weather likely to be in Mid August until September?

Any other suggestions for other resorts. Budget is 3000 pesos per night for a
double room.

Main idea of ideal resort:
- beachfront
- pool
- not too far from restaurants and main shopping areas

Many thanks for your answers in advance

Warm Regards

I haven't stayed at Dave's Straw but it's one of the popular, budget accom in Boracay. It's located in Station 3 and about 10-15mins walk to D'Mall (Station 2) where most of the restos and shops are. There is no taxi in Boracay, walking along the beach is the best mode of movement, though there are also pedicabs (bicycle with carriage). If your budget is P3000/night, you may also look up the resorts in Station 1 (high end).

Dave's is reputed to be the best small resort in that price range, and the service is excellent. There are restaurants close by Dave's, and all along the White Beach pathway so you are never far from a place to eat. The busiest area is 10-15 mins walk, or as mentioned before transport is available (though not taxis!).
As far as I know customers of Dave's Straw Hat can use the beach chairs at nearby Blue Mango Inn.

Daves is near beach front but not on it. They get good ratings and are less expensive I think than what you mentioned is your budget. See their website, they boast best dive prices on Boracay. I am not sure how they do that when the prices are regulated I heard. Daves is down a small alley that I have not walked, but read some complain about it.

Nazim,

Dave's straw hat is a nice place, however, as you have read it's not on the beach. They have great prices and a quite garden atmosphere at the hotel. The owners are great friendly people as well.

The White Beach is a long stretch (7 kilometers), divided into three stations (Station 1,2 & 3). The far side of Station 1 has a few discos and higher priced resorts. The side of Station 1 closer to D-mall has more reasonable accommodations and a bigger selection of bars and restaurants. Station 2 is similar to station 1, the side closer to D-mall has more restaurants and bars. D-mall is where a lot of things are centered and has a nice path to the main road, where you can catch a trike (motorbike with a large passenger side car big enough for 4-5 Filipinos) to one of the Discos at Station 1 or to/from the Jetty port where you enter/leave Boracay.

Station 3 is generally like the far side of Station 1. It is a more wuite, peaceful atmosphere, with restaurants and bars seperated by a little more distance. However, the prices of the hotels are generally a lot better that the high-prices resorts at Station 1.

For your budget, you could stay at Mito's Place (www.mitosplaceboracay.com). No pool, but it is beachfront. For 2,500 Pesos you can get one of the Garden rooms with 32" LCD TV w/ cable, Air Conditioning, & Hot Water. It is just a few minute walk to D'mall and has restaurants right next door. Bars are about a 30 second walk either way...

Enjoy Boracay!
