I need to leave luggage for a day in a left luggage facility in the centre of Rome. I will need more than a standard locker as the case is a large one. Is there a facility at termini, or if not, is there such a facility near any of the stations on the metro network.

Yes, there is a facility at Termini.

It's the Left Luggage office, not a series of lockers, so the size of your luggage doesn't matter (unless it's so big, they charge you double ;-) ).

J (leics) has given you all the info...follow the link she gave you, and you can even see a map of where the Left Luggage office is in the station.

Note: I hear there are sometimes long lines at the office, since baggage is subject to scanning/checking for security reasons before being accepted...
