London 02 arena, cheap accommodation
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 04:54 PM UTC
We couldn't get home after the Dolly Parton concert and all the hotels we called were booked, eek. Someone gave us the number of a pub nearby that had rooms to let - 80 pounds a room - up to four people. Ok, it wasn't the Ritz but the beds were clean and comfortable - what a blessing! If anyone gets stuck like us it might be worth a try, it was 15 minutes on a 486 bus from the 02 and the bus stopped almost outside. The pub was called The Woodman, SE7, tel. 0208 317 1531, hope that might be of help to someone.

Glad you found somewhere.

Why not make a tip about this on your London page? The info will soon get 'lost' on the forums.

I am appalled that a venue such as the O2, which is so well advertised and has such good shows, cannot sort out the transportation thing.

I was there in March when the Jubilee line was still operational, I gather it is now closed for 'essential maintenance'. We found a nightmare with thousands of people allowed into the tube station in 'batches'. Even this was not enough and someone hit a panic button on the escalator down to the platform - there was just nowhere to go and people were getting scared.

You seem to have hit on an excellent solution worth considering in the unlikely event I should be tempted again.

There is also the fast Thames Clipper boat that gets you to Waterloo in 30minutes. Never tried it, but maybe better than playing sardines on the tube.
