| City of Manila | Visa upon arrival Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 12:35 AM UTC
Hi there,
I'm from HK and planning to stay in the Philippines for 10 days. I think I need to apply for a visa. I'm wondering if I can apply for a visa upon arrival at the Manila airport? Thanks! |

Yes, you need to apply for a visa since your stay will exceed 7 days which is the maximum no. of day-stay when no visa is required. You have to secure a visa from any Philippine embassy or consulate in your country. For more details, visit this link: http://www.dfa.gov.ph/consular/visa-04.htm.

Yes, I know I need to apply for a visa. But the problem is: we can only apply for the visa from the embassy in HK in the morning, but I have a full-time job and am not free in the morning. I would therefore like to know if it is possible to apply for the visa at the Manila airport when I arrive.

I not sure on this but I thought the Philippines gave the same as Hong Kong gives to filipinos. When we went to Hong Kong I remember I got 90 days on a US passport and my wife got 14 days because we were there 10 days and she never got a extenion on the visa. You can get it ext. in Manila for about 2000 plus 1000 for fast service 30 minutes or less I guess its the same for Hong Kong passport holders.

To summarize, you do not need to apply for visa in HK to ENTER the Philippines. But you will be granted 7 days stay only. Before the 7 days are up, you will need to obtain a visa extension at the Bureau of Immigration office at Magallanes Street, Intramuros, Manila. There is an express lane which will issue the extension within a day.
If you do not have time to apply for the extension in Manila, you will need to obtain a visa in HK prior to departing for Manila.

HK and Macau passport holders are given only 7 days tourist visa. The common tourist visa (for other nationalities) is for 21 days.

Thanks all for your info.
May I know what documents (I think I need copies of my passport, my HK ID card, flight tickets, hotel confirmation emails. Anything else?) I need if I apply for a visa extension at the Bureau of Immigration, Intramuros, Manila. The Express Lane sounds good to me. How 'express' is that lane? 30 minutes or a few hours? One more request: do anyone know of a useful website I can check out? I visited http://immigration.gov.ph/ but didn't find any useful info (and even the Intramuros office!). A million thanks!

This one I know since I've gotten many visa extentions Either do from home which you can mail your passport and they will mail it back just check online at phil gov web sites. If you do it in Manila go to the imigration office pay the extra 1000 the guy will take your passport and bring it back in 1/2 hour for about 3000 total otherwise you get there early and wait all day and its not worth losing a day for 1000 pecos.
