Maui Shuttle Names
Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 02:06 PM UTC
Hello. From the airport to my hotel (which has not yet been determined), I will need to catch a shuttle. Which ones are cheap? The one that I priced so far costs over $110RT. I do NOT wish to rent a car because of the price of gas. Will only be there 5 days. Any ideas on cheap shuttles? Hoping somebody still has their coupon booklet from a recent Maui trip that they can look up for me...

Sorry, but at $110, I'd rent a subcompact car and spend an extra $50 on gas for the ability to get around and see the sights. Maui may be a small island, but there no all-inclusive resorts and there is a lot of diversity in the landscape.

Last October, we rented a mid-sized car, were on the go everyday (8 days) and only used one tank of gas for an additional $80.

Agree with Dengay. Either Haleakala sunrise or Road to Hana is worth a visit, suggest spend some extra bucks on a tank of gas.

I totally agree with the previous posts about getting a car. Once you factor in how much the airport transfers are the car for the week isn't much more and gives you a whole lot more freedom. Maui isn't very big but everything is spread out with driving times of between 20 and 45 minutes for the different areas. If you just want to sit by the hotel pool or visit the beach every day and not do any exploring or sight seeing then you will probably save a few bucks by not having a car. If you have to pay extra for transportation for even 1 excursion then it would be cheaper to rent the car.

I went to Maui Nov.07, I would highly advise you to rent a car, we rented on line & picked up at airport entrance was very easy, I believe it was 21.00 a day with unlimited milage & great gas saver. Driving the coast was the hi light of our trip the views are breathtaking. Our resort was 45 min.from airport so u save money by renting 110.00 each way is alot not to mention u can use the car to drive to cheaper restaurnts the resort food is very expensive. You will love Maui we stayed at the Westin Kannapali loved it. Also if you drive there are pull off places tostop & get great pictures & watch surfers.Enjoy!

Definitely rent a car! If you are there for 5 days you will definitely want to get out and drive to see various sights/beaches. You really aren't going to be spending that much money on gas. Besides, you will be in Hawaii - get out and see it! If you need to be thrifty, cut corners on food. Go to the grocery store and get lunchmeat and bread for sandwiches, get some sodas, snacks, etc. You'll save a lot more money doing that.
