| Perth | Some itinerary problem for Perth Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 11:42 AM UTC
We, a family of three decide our destination to be Perth!!
Understand end sep to beginning of oct are aussie school holidays. Since it is the peak season in WA, will most of the attraction be crowded ? I have some problem in deciding the itinerary for day 1. If we reach Perth at 6plus in the morning, anything we can do early in the morning? Shall we rent a car from the airport and drive outside to city? Normally how much to rent a decent car per day? Is there any free bus to perth city from Airport? Normal what time the day turn light in the morning and turn dark at night in Sep? We need to plan our trip to avoid driving in the dark. Your advice will be much appreciated. Tks |

Sun will be up around 6am and sundown around 6 to 6.30pm in September. And at 6am when you arrive there wont be a lot to do except grab some breakfast somewhere. Hiring a car might be a good idea. If you look at Avis, Budget and Europcar websites they will give you an indication of cost.
Bus shuttle from airport to city is here: http://www.perthairport.com/default.aspx?MenuID=19 As for attractions, they will be busy as it's school holidays. What kinds of things are you interested in? http://www.perthtouristcentre.com.au/ Cheers Col & Sue

Perth is pretty much a 20 minute city - you can get around anywhere within 20 minutes. You can do loads on your first day. You definitely need to hire a car though.
What exactly do you have in mind in terms of entertainment? You could do a river cruise, maybe sail across to Fremantle, or even to Rottnest Island (definitely a must).

You have selected an ideal time to visit Perth. September to October is ideal as the weather is not too hot, and our very strong afternoon seabreeze called the Fremantle Doctor, is not around to blow everything to bits until November.
Yes our school holidays are from Saturday 27th Sept to Sunday 3rd October. Most attractions will be very crowded during the holidays. You will have to make sure you have your hotel accommodation prebooked as Perth is nearly impossible to find hotel accommodation anywhere this year. If you arrive at 6 am I would suggest you take one of the airport to city shuttle bus services. I dont know whether these are free or not. Perth is a very busy city with heavy peak hour traffic from about 6.30 am to at least 9 am. Driving from the airports to the city is amongst the busiest peak hour traffic road systems in Perth. I would not advise driving through the peak hour nightmare if you have not visited Perth before. If you get a shuttle bus into Perth city central there is plenty to walk around near the Swan river areas to see until you can get entry to your hotel. Your luggage will be a problem though. Perhaps you could shuttle bus to your hotel and store your luggage with them then go out to have a look around the city? During September and October sunrise is around 6 am and sunset around 6.30 pm. You may find my free travel blog of use in planning your holiday.I post interesting articles daily to help tourists coming to Perth http://facts4you.net/TravelWesternAustralia I just posted some articles with information about where to stay and visit. I trust my information helps. Remember make sure your accommodation is prebooked and I would not recommend driving your self into Perth city. Arrange a hire car to be collected at your hotel and then you will find it easier to negotiate Perth traffic after getting a bit used to Perth's layout. have a great trip

the brighton36. ur answer is very comprehensive. Since there is free CAT around perth city, i also think to use the public transport to move around. however, we will need a car to travel outside city.
we are interested to the perth royal show but no really sure what is this. is it something like circus? can't find the daily highlight for 2008 (website only have highlight of 2007) Do we need full day to be there? how big is the show? any ideas how much is the ticket for adult?
