| South Africa | Local South African travel company Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 10:12 AM UTC
Hi there,
We'd like to visit South Africa on an individual tour (preferably no self drive )and we are looking for a local South African travel company that organizes such tours. Does anyone know such (trustworthy )companies or have experiences with them (both positive and negative...so we know which ones to avaoid )? |

my company does that sort of thing (not touting for trade here just giving some friendly advice) but it may be a little difficult to do South Africa without driving a little.
We usually try and pursuade people to self drive at least for a few days to make the most out of places like Cape Town, etc. as it gives you the freedom to see things in your own time without relying on a hire car. A good company would give you tons of advice and directions before you go which makes it alot easier. Distances are different in South Africa, a short way to them can be a few hours drive away lol not exactly walking distance a lot of the time. Besides think of the excitement of doing a self drive through the Kruger :) or even driving through the amazing scenery of the Panorama Route...I could go on and on :) You can do it with just flying and transfer but it could be expensive. Just a tip. There are certainly plenty of companies out there that can help you, just send out some quotes first and see what you get back, then at least you can asess companies in terms of your budget and what other people on VT would recommend. Hope you get a great trip, South Africa is a really great country (I'm already excited for you coz I know what a fab time you will have! :D)

Drive yourself. You'll save more than 50% of your costs at a minimum and see more/enjoy more.

Consider CapeCarol Travel, which is based in Durbanville in Cape Town. Carol has a wealth of knowledge and will be able to advise you no matter what your budget. We stayed at the Winelands Lodge and had a wonderful time. Tours can be guided or self-drive. You're welcome to have a look at my Cape Town pages to see where she took us.
