This may sound stupid..but that's all i can afford. Looking for accomodation in Paris for 4 nights for me and my wife. We are on a real budget tour...i think can afford only up to about 65 Euro a night. Any good recommendation? Well...convenient of course is a must and i know metro is everywhere in Paris. Please help..spent the last 4 hours online but just cannot make up my mind on a good accomodation..Thanks

Not a problem! Try the chain of hotels called Premiere Classe - they might be a little way out of town, but I'd think you'd get in without problems on the metro. They charge about Euros 40 per room per night - includes own WC/shower, but not breakfast. If you go upmarket to Campanile they're the same group you get tea making facilities and a plusher room. If you stay in Premiere Classe you can eat at the restaurant in the Campanille at a reduced rate. Campanille & PC hotels are sometimes on the same complex. Campanille restaurants are good value for money - romantic and good affordable food. Go through Google to access this site. Also try Ibis hotels - not sure of prices
Other basic clean hotel chains are Etape, Mister Bed and Village, the latter 2 I'd doubt have place centralish to Paris. Avoid Formula Ones as there clientelle can leave a lot to be desired, and you don't have your own WC etc.

we stayed in Hotel Altona in Monmatre - booked through alpharooms - cheap and cheerfull imo - not too far away from gard du nord - sacre couer - and moulin rouge - its one of those places you just have a bed - eat your breakfast and go out for the day - nothing to spend any time in the hotel for
hope you sort something nice Julie

I like checking Hostelworld.com when I'm looking for somewhere cheap, its not just about hostels there are cheap hotels in there (my fiance hates hostels, hes a bit of an accommodation snob!). We have stayed in a few places off there when we have been in holland. Think I stayed in somewhere from there when I was in Paris as well but it was sooo long ago now, hard to remember!
2 that I saw straight away on there that may fit the bill of cheap and cheerful with private rooms are: Garden Opera, double ensuite for about €50pppn; Grand Hotel Magenta double ensuite for €29 pppn; etc. Take a look, there may be something on there that fits the bill, good luck and enjoy Paris :)

Try this place. I have never stayed here, but it's in my Paris neighborhood. It's in a great location. Looks far out, but it isn't. It's very convenient, transportation wise, too.

I stayed at a hotel called ADRIATIC twice (full tip on my paris page) which is very close to Gare de Lyon. The location is pretty cool, very close to 2 metro stations, not too far from Notre Dame area (still a bit far to walk), it's close to several restaurants, cafes and shops too. Only 52 EUR a night for a single room, not too much extra for a double so you might want to look at this option.... their prices remained the same even throughout the summer (you didn't say when you were traveling but of course everything is more expensive in this season), so it could be a good alternative for you.

Your request is not at all stupid! Fewer Americans (not sure if you are an American), including me, are traveling to Europe due to the paltry dollar/euro exchange. Last trip was in November and in the weeks leading up to the trip I saw the price of the euro go from $1.35 to $1.47! So I certainly understand the need for budget accommodations.
If you're not going for a couple of months I highly recommend Hotel Henri IV which is in the center of the city. I paid 32 euro/night February 2006 and I'm quite sure doubles are under 60 euros. They have no website so you can only contact them via phone and they accept cash only. But they're super central, located in an historic over-400-year-old building that overlooks the romantic Place Dauphine (which featured in the Sex & the City Paris episode). They're within walking distance of Ste-Chapelle, the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Left Bank, rue de Rivoli on the Right Bank, the Marais, Ile St-Louis (another island trailing behind Notre Dame). They're super popular, though, so you'll need to book a few months ahead. Full details here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/180121/ You might also try Hotel Port Royal located at the bottom of the 5th arrondissement, near the 14th arrondissement, and close to the bottom of rue Mouffetard a famed market street in the Latin Quarter. A double with bathroom goes for 52 euros per night. The hotel is really nice, the night clerk Simon is SUPER helpful, the area is lovely with plenty of banks, metro stop nearby, taxi stand nearby, plenty of bus lines, plus restaurants and pastry shops. Oh, and lots of movie theatres should you require a calm nightlife. The only problem with the place is that I was in Paris during the transit strikes and the owners weren't very helpful in giving out updated transit info (somedays certain bus lines would be closed, other days it was all metro & bus lines, etc.) but if there are no transit strikes while you're in Paris then this place is a gem! More info here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tp/1b4fee/ Here are some photos I took one day walking from the hotel (beginning at Square St-Medard at the foot of rue Mouffetard). It started off as a fairly overcast but I hope you can see the charm in the area in spite of that! http://www.pbase.com/beatchick/nov_14_075th_18th_ Another day, I headed off to Montparnasse (eventually ending up in le Marais) walking from the hotel: http://www.pbase.com/beatchick/nov_16_07montparnasse__marais And here's a beautiful walk going to La Butte aux Cailles in the 13th arrondissement & on to Parc Montsouris in the 14th: http://www.pbase.com/beatchick/nov_17_07_13th_14th_1st_2nd_3rd I wanted to recommend to you the Hotel Chopin but I see they're now priced out of your category at 88 euros/night. I also have an inexpensive restaurant list on Excel if that would help you folks.

Hi, I agree with Originalribenababy - try hostelworld and also do a google for youth hostels in paris.
I stayed in a twin bed room in a nice hostel last year only a few minutes from Notre Dame - so it was quite a handy spot - and pretty spot - for only 28 euro - with ensuite and breakfast- amazingly i had the whole room to myself for 3 nights as noone came along that wanted to pay that price to share in only a twin room! (cheaper for more beds in a room). so for you two thats a pretty good option and includes breakfast. I forget what its called and where i put the info -just recently moved house - but found them online easily - look also under international hostel association - they have one hostel for under 26s or some age and then the other, the one i stayed at allows above that age. there are a number of good youth hostels around Paris but this one is in a really handy spot and is nicely kept.

Well, some accommodations will up their room rates during peak times (especially during fashion weeks, festivals and major conferences). When I was hunting around for a hotel room for last November one of the cheapest places in Paris, Hotel Eldorado, tripled their room rates! Hotel Henri IV, however, does not. Now would be an excellent time to contact them. The best way to do so would be 9am-noon Paris time by phone.
Or you might try Hotel Eldorado if you don't mind being a bit off the beaten track (it's located in the 17th not too far from Place de Clichy, an area that scares some people). Doubles go for 50-70 euros. http://www.eldoradohotel.f Yeah, I saw AFTER I made the comment that you were not an America when I clicked on your home page (sorry about the assumption - bad Mary). ;D
