| Bari | Traveling by Train from Bari Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 03:25 AM UTC
I was curious if anyone knew whether it is necessary (or recommended) to purchase tickets for a train from Bari to Rome ahead of time...Also are there any suggestions for travel inbetween Rome and Bari...(or if there is a cheaper route that can lead to an eventual arrival in Rome?)
Thanks! |

will give you times and fares in English. As there are only a few (3, it seems) trains per day it would seem sensible to buy in advance at least the day before. You can buy tickets right up to a few minutes before departure, of course, but that is entirely dependent on availability. Really, it depends on how flexible you are: if you absolutely must travel on a particular train then buying in advance would seem safest. The standard fare is 41.80 euro, which is very reasonable. It might be possible to do the journey by bus for less, but the journey will obviously take longer.

Hi there,
I've just come back from Bari and travelled on the Eurostar leaving for Rome, though I came from the opposite direction and got off at Bari Centrale. Although a lot of people were waiting on the platform, there was plenty of space on the train and I wouldn't think you'd have a problem getting on without prebooking. Bari was the first big stop for this train so I'd imagine that is usual, though of course it could be different depending on when you travel. If you aren't 100% sure which train to take I probably wouldn't bother if I were you. Although you'll most likely get on, getting a seat is another matter, however, so bear that in mind. You can choose a seat too when you prebook. Italian trains can get very crowded with people standing and perching everywhere. If you do decide to book a seat, you can do it minutes before getting on the train provided there's availability.
