| Buenos Aires | 10 Days in Buenos Aires Posted: Mon July 7, 2008 01:57 AM UTC
My BF and I will be flying into Buenos Aires and staying for 10 days. I'm really excited to go and have so much time to spend, however with that said- I think it would be nice to visit some nearby towns. Any suggestions for good day trips from Buenos Aires? I know we would like to spend the day riding at an Estancia.. so if you have recommendations that would be great!

I'd recommend an overnight trip to Iguazu Falls. A truly amazing spectacle, not to be missed!

the nearby uruguayan town of Colonia is well worth it. you could either go for the day, if you start early and catch the fast boat or go overnight.
Iguazu is fantastic but going there for anything less than three days and two nights wouldnt do it justice. there are enough things in BA itself to keep you busy, it is such a lovely town

To answer your question about nearby towns to Buenos Aires, I would highly recommend San Antonio de Areco. It is a very traditional town that celebrates and maintains the gaucho heritage. Founded in 1730 and features some outstanding 18th century architectural lines. In addition there are some wonderful estancias in the area to enjoy. La Bamba is probably the most famous http://www.la-bamba.com.ar/ and would provide an outstanding experience for you. It is only 113 kms from Buenos Aires so not a long trip, and can be reached by bus or private car hire (remise). The estancia might also have transportation available as well. But I would recommend at least an overnight here to fully enjoy the area.
This link will provide you a detailed list of additional estancias in the province for your consideration. Some are ultra luxe, some typical campo but comfortable and others a bit more basic. http://www.welcomeargentina.com/estancias/buenosaires_i.html There are estancias that offer tourism day trips to their sites but I would recommend avoiding those since they tend to be geared towards a more commercial type tourist, with a country type Disneyland presentation horse show and mediocre buffet. All packaged and sanitized. Rather than spending some hours on a boat to Colonia and a day walking around , I would suggest spending a couple of days in San Antonio de Areco or Estancia SANTA RITA in LOBOS. This one is a bit higher level of accommodations http://www.estanciasdebsas.com.ar/ Either place or one of the many other choices would certainly provide you an entertaining diversion from the city and allow you to experience country lifestyle and the world famous gauchos. There are many wonderful spots to visit within 100kms of Buenos Aires and try and spend one night, you will be able to appreciate the stars in the southern sky at nighttime in the country. A truly awesome experience. Hope this helps. Suerte SAM

Hi
Do go to the Tigre Delta and take a river cruise for a few hours. It's not expensive and it's really interesting to see the places that many people from B.A. live in at the weekends. Details are on my crazyman2 site. Also, do go to Montevideo and take a trip to an estancia for a day. again, my site pages should have the details of an excellent estancis about an 30 minutes from Monte. Have fun! Stephen
