Berlin Best Currywürste in Berlin
Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 01:30 PM UTC
I love Currywürste, but you have to know where to find them in Berlin. I used to go to a lovely place in front of the Memorial Church, but I don't remember its name. So:

a) Do you happen to know the name of that place?

b) What's the best place for Currywürste in Berlin, in your opinion?

c) I've heard wonders about a restaurant near Mehrindgamm subway station. Have you ever been there?

a) Don't know the name, but since you know where it is you should find it.

b) Difficult to say, really depends on what you like. I like the place at Gesundbrunnen station ("Currybaude") and the "Konnopke" in Weissensee (the first sausage stall of that chain, not the one in Schoenhauser Allee). The decisive point about a Currywurst is the curry-tomato sauce in which it is served...it should not be as sticky as ketchup but rather be a real sauce which tastes fruity and a bit spicy. I don't like it when they dust the curry powder on top, that ruins everything.

c) That place is called "Curry36". As touristy as the "Konnopke" in Schoenhauser Allee. However, have never actually tried one of their Currywurst, maybe it's good. But there are too many Arab food stalls in that area, so no need for me to stick to Currywurst.

If you like a currywurst made from free range meat, that is free range animals, go to Wittenbergplatz. Simply excellent currywürste there!

The best? In my opinion it's the small snack bar directly at S-Bahnhof Warschauer Straße. Unfortunately they're open only mon-fri ~7am to ~6:30pm...
the most famous Konnopke and Curry 36 (btw they powder the ketchup with curry as #2 dislikes) are ok, but not more.

curry 36 is great, I could eat there every day. You have to take "Currywurst mit Darm und Pommes mit Mayo"
