Rome How to get from Rome airport to street "Via della Conciliazione"
Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 11:24 AM UTC
Hello,

we will land at airport (da vinci) Rome at July, 27. How to get to our Hotel (street "Via della Conciliazione")?
I ve seen there is a train connection to "Trastevere". But how to get from there to the hotel. Is there any train-, Metro- or Busline?
(The same procedure back to airport at July, 3th.)
Thanks for your help guys. See you in Rome :-)

Greetings Kim

You can get the 'metropolitan' train to Trastevere easily. It is cheaper than the Leonardo Express (which goes to Termini station anyway), and not much slower.

http://www.adr.it/content.asp?Subc=1356&L=3&idMen=731

will give you the train timetable. The station is well-signed within the airport, and you can buy your tickets at the booth there. Remember to validate (date-stamp) them before you board, using the yellow machines on the platform.

You could also get the faster Leonardo Express direct to Termin1 if you wanted (fare 11 euro), then take the Metro or bus to the Vatican area (Via Della Conciliazione leads directly to Piazza S.Pietro). Metro Linea A (direction Battistini) to Ottaviano, then walk seems most convenient.

There are a variety of ways to get from Fiumicino airport to Via della Conciliazione, which, as J says, does run straight into St. Peter's from Castel Sant'Angelo.

Here's a summary, not guaranteed to be all inclusive:
1. As J noted, take the Leonardo Express (11 euro each) to stazione Termini, then take the Metro to the Ottaviano stop (1 euro each, I believe) and walk a few hundred meters south/southeast.
2. As J noted, take the FM1/FR1 (the local train) to stazione Trastevere, then take either a taxi up to Via della Conciliazione, or use the ATAC website listed above to figure out what buses/trams head in that direction. It's something like 5.50 euro each plus taxi, or 5.50 euro each plus 1 euro each bus fare. (Note: the 5.50 is from memory, so check).
3. Take the FM1/FR1 train to a stop like Ostiense, then switch to the subway (you'll have to take the Metro to Termini, then switch lines to go out to the Via della Conciliazione (5.5 plus 1 euro each) - in fact, if you asked the ATAC website for a solution, this might well be what it tells you.
4. Take a taxi from the airport straight to the Via della Conciliazione, under the fixed fare rules (40 euro for both of you). See the Transportation Tips on my Rome page for my info.

Note that you will have to handle your luggage yourself on the train, Metro, and bus. Note that #4 is quite expensive for one person, but gets much cheaper per person as you add people. In fact, #4 is cheaper than #1 if you have 4 people.
Note that you may have to evade some unsavory people on the Metro and Termini - this is nothing if you're accustomed to big cities, but can be a shock for people from more peaceful domains.
Note that Trastevere is a commuter station, with much less 'wildlife'; you should be able to get off the train, walk out and grab the next taxi in queue with little trouble.
Note that if you want a taxi, ALWAYS get it from the official taxi queue whether at the airport, train station, or in a large piazza, not from some yahoo who comes up to you to make you an offer.
Note that since the Vatican is on the west side of Rome as is the airport, the taxi trip to Via della Conciliazione will be much faster than taking public transit (Termini is on the opposite side of town from the airport and the Vatican)...and #2 will be the second fastest if you take the taxi).

So, you get to balance time versus money versus effort...your choice!
