| Nepal | 3rd Week of July 08 - 2/3 nights in Kathmandu and 2 nights in Pokhara Posted: Sun July 6, 2008 07:37 AM UTC
I'm a foreigner living in Dhaka, planning to go to Kath and Pokh in third week of July (2-3 Weeks from now). My tour agency came up with some packages for us for these two places: The Everest Hotel in Kathmandu and Fulbari Resort and Spa in Pokhara. Flight from Dhaka - Kath and A/C tourist bus from Kath - Pokh - Kath.
I read from somewhere that the bus from Kath - Pokh is safe though condition isn't that great, but the view is awesome. What I'm worried most is actually the weather condition there in Nepal. It's gonna be my first trip there (hopefully if nothing changes). I'm aware that it's rainy reason. Do you think it's gonna rain everyday? Would the sky be clear too? Is the plane flight gonna be scary? Am I gonna waste the money by going there in July!?!?!? Please write...I'm thrilled about this!! Thanks. |

July is the middle of the monsoon season, so you would be VERY lucky to get any clear skies in Nepal. If you live in Dhaka, then you know that the monsoons don't necessarily mean rain all day, every day; but it does mean some rain almost every day and almost continuously overcast skies.
However, the Kathmandhu Valley is wonderful at any time of year. If the views are the only reason you are going out to Pokhara, you might consider skipping it and concentrating on sights in the valley. If you get a clear day, you can always run up to a resort on the valley rim and check things out, and there are PLENTY of things to see and do in the KTM Valley to occupy a week. I love Pokhara, but I think there is little point in going there in mid-summer if you are interested in anything beyond chilling out by the lakeside.

Yes, I would also stick to Kathmandu and the valley as the weather will be a lot better there than in Pokhara (Pokhara is one of the wettest places in Nepal !!),
As You only have a week there is plenty to keep you well occupied there for that time. Have a couple of days or so in Kathmandu, Then when the weather breaks book yourself the Buddha Air Mountain Flight to see Everest, take a trip up to Nagrokot and spend a night or 2 up there to experience a bit of hill life, Then there are the other ancient cities and all the monuments and temples in the valley to see. I have taken a lot of photos and listed most of the Must see things in the tips section of my Nepal page – you might find it worth a browse. I Hope that helps but if you need more info then drop me a line Happy Travels Rob

Between pokhara and Kathandu, in the season u mention, I would suggest u to go Kathmandu. Since, the weather is gloomy and wet..good views will only be exception form Pokhara. But, in Kathamndu u can enjoy the ancient places, palaces, art crafts and people. Bhaktapur, Patan, Basantapur Durbar square, shwoyambhu nath(monkey temple), Baudanath, pashupatinath are must visit place in Kathmandu plus the weather would effect you only if there is pouring rain but it wont last long. It will be stop raining in few hrs and you can continue your tour.
And Nagarkot resort will be very relaxing after the sightseeing in Kathamndu. And it wont be like, you are going to waste your money in the season u mention, it will be different though but it wont be bad.

I was there late may and it was hazy and we didnt have clear days. But I would imagine the monsoon might clear this so you might get clear days for good views.
