Hey yall,
A friend and I have been talking about going to Japan for a while now. We finally said to hell with it and purchased a 2 week trip from Aug 1, 2008 through Aug 13, 2008. I have been searching for some sort the net for some sort of 'happenings' page, but haven't found much. We are both mid 20s so keep that in mind if you respond. We found out about Summer Sonic Festival and scooped up tickets already. Also, if you know of anything local to do or random places we should see, please list them We will be staying near Asakusabashi Station (JR+Toei),Bakurocho St (JR),Akihabara St (JR+Metro) if there is anything nearby. I also have no idea what the above means but I'm hoping they are all subways around Tokyo..haha Thanks, Dan |

That may help you some. Too bad you aren't going a couple of weeks later. You are going to miss the annual Samba Festival. However, you are going to be in Tokyo. uhhhh... the original question, yeah.
dannsd, you will be in Tokyo during Obun time (a family oriented holiday in which people return to their birth place to honour the memory of their ancestors). This holiday takes place during the week of the 11th, so you might find it to be quiet around the end of your trip. It's impossible to find one page that will tell you what is going on in Tokyo, there is to much stuff happening to do that. To do research ypu should think of what it is that you want to do, and then research that specific thing. For example, you mentioned Summersonic, if you want to see more lives while you are there, you should search for info by genre, "Visual Shock Rock Tokyo", for example. If you search macro concepts you aren't likley to find very useful info. You may also want to search record shops by genre, find what interests you and then go there to talk to the staff for recommendations.

Samba Festival is August 26 in Asakusa on Umamichi-dori & Kaminarimon-dori.
