| Liguria | Italian Parking Tickets Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 03:40 PM UTC
I recently got a parking ticket in Ventimiglia, for not apparently posting a disc of some sort. I was visiting from France, where we always have access to curbside machines which accept coins to print out tickets for you intended parking term. Not finding any, we parked at got a ticket.
Is there an email address where I can send a note to the Ventimiglia or Imperia police explaining the situation and request the ticket to be canceled? Carl |

Your explanation is irrelevant, it's like saying that buses in one country don't have the same sort of ticket system as another, so you didn't pay for a ticket! There must have been signs up about the parking system even if you missed them or didn't understand them, and ignorance is may excuse your mistake but it doesn't let you off paying for it.
However, if you insist on requesting cancellation of a parking ticket that was legally due (!), here are phone numbers: http://www.provincia.imperia.it/Link_utili/NumPolStato.htm

Hi Carl. The parking "discs" are little cardboard clocks with moveable hands. You usually can park for a specific amount of time and then must move your car. You set the moveable hands to show what time you parked and the police check regularly. If you don't have a disk or you overstay your welcome, you receive a ticket. The disks are available at different sources, often a nearby gas station. This is pretty common throughout Europe and often difficult to discover. There may be only a little clock face on a sign by the parking. If you don't know what it means, it isn't much help. 8^(
I can't imagine they will cancel your ticket. Parking is your responsibility so the ticket is your responsibility. If you have an address, you might as well pay the ticket. Others have posted about this problem and no one that I know of has gotten out of the ticket. Perhaps someone who has gone through this will post here and tell you what to do. Because of the time difference, Italians probably won't be posting for a while so give it 24 hours to see what other replies you get here. Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I forgot to return to VT after adding the posting, until today.
I tried sending an email to the address listed on the Imperia website, but it bounced back, so I am at a standstill. I have also asked friends who live in Cannes who go to Ventimiglia almost weekly. Their opinion is that the local government in Imperia does not pursue parking tickets issued to cars with French resistration. I do recall the old disc situation from many years ago. Actually, a few years ago, I parked in Ventimiglia and did find a machine, just like in France, to pay for an hour's worth of parking, so I was surprised not to find one on the street where I parked this time.
