Zaragoza Travelling to Zaragoza from the north of England
Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 01:18 PM UTC
Hi
I am going to see a friend who lives in Zaragoza - planning sometime in October. There is a flight from a nearby airport to Girona. I see that the distance is 356 miles. Are there any obvious problems to hiring a car and driving? I have been before and I think I would want to avoid driving in the centre but I could leave the car at her house which is in a village outside of the centre.
Thanks
Sheila

Hi Sheila, No there are no obvious problems driving to Zaragoza or with hire cars in spain. I always use www.all-incusive-car-hire.com or www.holidayautos.co.uk when the first one is not available. The other option of course is driving or getting a lift down to Stansted & flying direct to Zaragoza with Ryanair. Flights are usually cheaper from Stansted than Teeside ( or is it Newcastle you are going from? )so weigh up the pros & cons & see which you prefer, Darren.

I assume that you meant 365 kilometers, not miles (it's really about 220 miles).

From the map (www.viamichelin.com) it looks like major highways all the way, with the airport being on one. So - knock on wood - the drive should be a breeze...just under 4 hours...note that viamichelin.com will estimate your petrol and toll costs as well...

Hi
Thanks for that both of you - pleased about the "reduced" miles. I will now visit the website you mentioned. I had thought of travelling to Stanstead but it means a very early morning start - did this once before and can't face it again! You have helped me to decide I will travel from Teesside ( a very short taxi ride from my house) - It is the same price as Stanstead to Zaragoza to fly to Gerona and at least I will have a car so that I am not totally dependant on my friend who may have to work some of my visit.
Thanks again to both of you for your help.

Hi.
It seems you have already choosen to fly to Girona. It is o.k, I go there from Zaragoza 3 or 4 times each year. Right at the entrance of the airport in Girona you will find the higway to Zaragoza. It is a "paid" road(sorry for my english), and the cost of it thru Zaragoza is arround 15 euros(each way), there is a cheapest option with other road, not a bad one...but I use to drive the paid one. It takes a bit over 3 hours from Girona to Zaragoza...and if you are going to come here driving...ask your friend which exit you should use, and how to reach the house, there are lots of news roads and entrances to this city.

Good luck.

Hi Miguel
Thanks for your input - your English is excellent = its one thing speaking it but writing is always more difficult. Just for info we call them toll roads. Since making my decision I have had a re think and I am now flying direct to Zaragoza. I am going to stay a few nights in the centre and then stay with my friend. She lives in Villanuevo de Gallego = I really like her village ( especially a VERY good restaurant with food cooked on a fire (someones' front room I think!!!) but I want to be in the centre and there I do not need a car. I love your city and am looking forward to going again.
Thanks again for your interest and help.
