Norway Bus/Boat Schedules - where do you get them in English?
Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 12:53 PM UTC
Hi, we are arriving in Oslo on July 22, 2008. We have our trip planned from Oslo to Bergen to Leikanger. We then want to get to Sogndal and Aurland. I am having problems finding bus schedules and boat schedules so we can get to our destinations. Can you help me locate them?

Thanks! This is a great website!

This is a backdoor way to do it, but visit: http:wikitravel.org/en/Norway. The page covers transportation quite well. To get the the tranport company web sites page in English, you can use the "Google" search engine. Type the company name in the search block, (not the web address block), when the link comes up, click "translate this page". Gary

The company operating buses and boats in Sogn og Fjordane county is called Fjord1 - their website used to be available in English, but the website has been changed a bit recently and the English translation seems to have disappeared! www.fjord1.no

But still, go to their website, and on the left you'll see "Rutesøk" - search time tables (both buses and boats). Fra = from, to = til, søk = search. Remember that if any of your locations are spelled with the special Norwegian characters (æ, ø, å) you'll need to use those, or the system won't recognise your location - but the three places you mention here are fine. ;o)

In some of the timetables you'll notice things like D, DX67.. D = daily, DX67 = daily except day 6 & 7 (Saturday and Sunday)

Let me know if you have any problems and I'll help you out.

The fjord1 site can be a little hard to work with. Leikanger to Sogndal is easy - many people work in Sogndal and live in Leikanger so its a commuter route. Aurland connects through Sogndal. The shortest route is the one below this message:

Avgang Ankomst Rute Frå Til
06.07 13:50 06.07 14:20 23-504 Leikanger Sogndal skysst.
06.07 14:30 06.07 16:05 14-103 Sogndal skysst. Aurland

Hope this helps!

If you use "Google", type "fjord1.no", in the "search",( not the web address), block. When the link you wish to view comes up, click "translate this page". I just checked. Most of the site does translate. Gary
