| Pagudpud | Laoag: Vigan or Pagudpud? Help!!! Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 08:59 AM UTC
Hi All!
My friend and I are heading to Pagudpud in September via plane to Laoag City. We too would like to go to Vigan but we are pressed for time. We arrive at 7pm in Laoag on a Saturday and leave for Manila at 8pm on a Monday. I need help with how much pocket money we should bring, where to go first (Laoag--Vigan or Pagudpod?), route we should be taking to get there? Based on the inputs on this site I have an initial plan on how we can maximize our time and go to most, if not all the places, in both Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. Day 1 (Arrival in Laoag 7pm) *Check in a nearby holel in Laoag and buy pasalubongs) Day 2 (Early Morning at around 6am) *Check out of the hotel *Do the Land tour (Bangui Windmills, Cape Bojeadour Lighthouse, Kabigan Falls, Patapat Viaduct, Blue Lagoon Beach)--since there are only 2 of us, were going to hire a tricycle--I managed to find a cellphone number on one of the blogs i visited. *In the evening (6pm) Check in one of the many resorts in Saud beach. Day 3 (Early Morning at around 6am) * Check out * Leave for Vigan (a bus ride I suppose) * (another bus ride back to the airport)Be back at Laoag at 6pm and head back to Manila. Is this plan a little bit too ambitious or expensive? Or is the route we're going to take reasonable? How far is Pagudpud to Vigan anyway? Please help me chart our course. Suggestions and recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thanks! |

Wow Amazing Race! ;)
Kidding aside, what do you mean hiring a tricycle for the land tour? I don't think it's time efficient. Might as well take the jeepney going to windmills and lighthouse which are about 1-2 towns from Pagudpud, and trike for the others. From Pagudpud to Vigan, try to catch the Florida Bus bound for Manila from Pagudpud and get off at Vigan (or Bantay-Vigan junction if the bus won't enter Vigan proper). Otherwise, you have to take a bus to Laoag then transfer to another bus for Vigan. Travel time is about 3-4 hours. Vigan can be toured in half a day and travel time to Laoag is 1.5-2 hours. Personally, I found your itinerary "stressing" than "relaxing". Maybe you cut down on some sights.

If you won't mind travelling a couple of hours upon arrival in Laoag (I don't think you would be that tired after just an hour's flight), I'd rather check in and spend the night at a hotel in Vigan as there's not much to see in Laoag anyway. I believe there would still be buses going to Vigan from Laoag at that time.
You can then tour Vigan and shop around the following morning, then leave for Pagudpud after lunch and arrive there early evening. After spending the next morning (Monday) at the beach, head back to Laoag after lunch for your return flight. I doubt if you can do your land tour given the constraints of time and public transport.
