| Barcelona | Transportation on New Years Day Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 08:27 AM UTC
My family and I will be traveling to Barcelona from Paris on New Years Day. I am curious to hear if there are any transportation issues that may affect our travel from BCN airport to the apartment we're renting in the Gracia neighborhood in Barcelona. We land at approximately 16:15 in the afternoon. Are there any added costs for taxis? Do the trains run at the same times? Are there any other things I should consider?
Thanks! Robert |

the trains will run of festive schedule (a bit less frequent than in workdays) and the taxis do have festive day fees so these will cost you a few euros more, (the same if you were traveling on Sunday). Metro will run as usual
Can't think on other things for you to consider, apart than the city will be virtually dead on Jan 1. On Jan 2 everything will be back to usual. Christmas decorations, crazy shopping etc here do last until the 3'kings festival (Jan 6)

Thank you so much for the information! I one time didn't anticipate a holiday in England that we don't observe in the States and had to travel by several buses on holiday schedules when I was expecting a direct train ride. I appreciate the information about Three Kings Festival. I wasn't tracking that holiday and will definitely incorporate it into our plans. Do restaurants and businesses shut down on the 6th as well? Apparently, our plans are to travel on holidays only!

yes, virtually everything will close on Jan 6. You may enjoy the parades on the 5 evening (for kids.... but everybody enjoys these!). If you plan some shopping, sales here do start on Jan 7.
