I will be visiting Avignon in mid October Can someone tell me what to expect as far as the weather is concerned? Will it be chilly? Also, what is the best way to get from Paris to Avignon (without renting a car)? Thanks!

Best way to get there: TGV. You'll be there in a little over 3 hours.
As for weather, your guess is as good as any. Look up averages from previous years and hope fpr the best and prepare for the worst.

The weather will probably be pretty good but it will undoubtedly rain on occasion. Take an umbrella and you'll be fine. The days are getting shorter and sometimes it can be very windy (VERY windy) but your chances of excellent weather are pretty good. You can check averages but every year is different so it's difficult to make any packing decisions. Plan layers and hope for the best. Don't forget that umbrella though. 8^)
If it's cold, rainy and windy, many of the tourist shops will be closed so don't be surprised at that. There is a great covered market that will keep you occupied for hours on a rainy day and it's fun because there aren't any tourists; just you and the local shoppers. It's just a few blocks from the Pope's Palace; ask anyone.

Thanks for your information. I'm going to work on a restoration project in St Victor la Coste. Hopefully the weather will cooperate!
