| Chicago | Follow Up question about accomodation Posted: Sat July 5, 2008 03:05 AM UTC
I have done some research and Oak Park seems to be an interesting destination in and of itself....I gather that the Metra (or El) has a line that runs from OP to downtown loop. Any thoughts of two of the hotels I see mentioned: The Write Inn, and the Carleton of Oak Park? How about the chains like Holiday Inn, etc...any in the area?
Thanks Jim |

Take a look at Trip Advisor, both hotels have numerous reviews and it looks like the Carleton is favored over the Write Inn.
The el and Metra both run to Oak Park, Metra is a nicer train but has more limited times and will probably cost a bit more. The neighborhood just to the east of Oak Park is not the nicest (I don't even like driving through it in broad daylight), I've read that people find the Metra to be a bit safer than the el through that area as it's primarily for commuters from the western suburbs. If you decide to stay in Oak Park, I'd ask at the hotel as to what they thought was the best way into the city.

Hi! Oak Park is very interesting.Frank LLoyd Wright's house and studio are there. There are also a number of that style house and they give you a map.Outside of that, there is little to see or do in the area. You are better off staying in the loop and taking the el or a train.Give yourself a half day. There is also a FLW house near the U of Chicago. The arch. cruise on the river is fun, also.Don't pass up millenium park on Mich ave.
