| India | Group Tour in Rajastan Posted: Fri July 4, 2008 11:14 PM UTC
Although I've been to India several times my wife and her friend would love to go next March for around 2 weeeks with me also. Preference would be as part of a small group tour - I should add that we are mid/late 40's and looking for a cultural type tour of Delhi/Agra/Rajastan and/or maybe the foothills. Good enough for the girls to get a taste of India etc and in reasonable comfort.
Can anyone recommend a good tour Company? Appreciated... Alan |

HI Alan,
Earlier this year my wife and I did a tour of Southern India with Intrepid travel and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the tour. Generally they have tours of not more than 12 people. I have kept in touch with some of the people we were with and who went north with Intrepid and everyone says it was just as good as the tour in the south. www.intrepidtravel.com

U are interested in having a cultural tour of Delhi, Agra & Jaipur (in the State of Rajasthan). Well, all these places are nearby with a maximum journey duration of 6hours by train. If time is not a constraint, I would suggest u not to go for a tour package. There r two reasons for the same. One is that u have been to India in the past, so u will be having quiet good idea about the country and secondly, u are planning to visit such places which are quiet near to each other and are well known places. Knowing little bit english is sufficient in getting required amount of help.
If u are landing in New Delhi, it will be more simpler. My suggestions are: a) Use Indian Railway for your travelling purpose. They r quiet comfortable. Althugh luxury buses are also available and also road travelling by own vehicle is also an option. b) Online booking of tickets can be done on Indian Railway site www.irctc.co.in which is an official site and will offer u the best price for your trip. If u are interested in going for tour company, try the same site. Govt. tourism department in association with India railways offers wide variety of tour packages at reasonable prices. I hope this will help For more information on this type of tour, check tip in the name "Golden triangle tour" on my homepage. Keep Smiling Vivek Dadu

Hi Alan - based on your post it sounds like a tour would be a good option. Although many people travel on their own, I think you will find less hassles (transportation, luggage, etc.) on a tour. You will have the added plus of a guide. Many reputable companies have tours to India including Thomas Cook, GAP Adventures, Globus, etc. - just depends on your budget. Your itinerary along with Jaipur is probably the most popular India itinerary. You may have enough extra time to include a visit to Varanasi or a tiger park (Ranthambhore, Corbett, etc.). Happy Travels!

I do not know what kind of budget you are travelling on but you may try the Indian Railways , 'Palace on wheels ' tour which should cover Rajasthan and Agra in real comfort
You can find the necessary info on palaceonwheels.net Anand
