Moscow From Domodedovo to Sheremetyevo
Posted: Fri July 4, 2008 09:41 PM UTC
Hi,

I am at Domodedovo at 4:30 pm. a I have got plane from Shetemetyevo at 10:00 pm.
Is it possible to make it not using a cab (direct bus between airportsm train to city and then a bus to the airport, etc.)? Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Piotr

They are currenly planning to build a train connection between all Moscow airports, I've just heard from friends. But for today, there're some other options: buses and trains go from Domodedovo to Moscow, but I am not sure what time they operate in the morning, as I could not open a webpage with this info.
Probably, when you'd get your luggage and pass passport control, it will be 5.30 am or more, so it is probably when they just start running. I know that a train goes to the centre of Moscow, train station Paveletskaya (same name for a metro station). It is appr. 2 hours journey, and there is some kind of express train as well - 50 min., but I am sure this one is more expensive.
From 6am there are Express buses "Scania" and coaches ("avtobus" in Russian) start to operate, and they go to nearest metro station, which is not in the centre of the town - Domodedovo metro station. They run every 15 min., and journey time is about 30 min. Also, there are small car-buses for about 6-8 people, called "marshrutnoe taksi", they are cheaper then
Try this: http://www.domodedovo.ru and tel. of the Domodedovo airport: + 7(495) 720-6666, promising info in English also.
From Paveletskay or Domodedovskay stations you can go by metro to a station called Planernaya (bus 817) or station called "Rechnoi vokzal" (bus 851), where you can take local buses to Sheremetievo, it is about 1 hour jorney as far as I remember. But it is quite difficult to get those local buses there, even for Russians, there are big quiues, pushy people and so on. So, I would not recommend it. It's website http://www.sheremetyevo-airport.ru
There are also a nice comfortable coach, which you can take from a metro station "Airoport" (almost in the middle of Moscow) to the Sheremetievo airport. It is a better option then a local bus, but it could be busy. So, I would not recomment to do all this, as it could be min. 3 hours in total with all transfers and waiting, unless you will be lucky to get a direct coach to metro station Airport ("Aeroport" in Russian) from Domodedovo and a coach from there to Sheremetievo.
I hope it is helpful. Good luck!

There is direct bus connection between airports, but between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
traffic is very very havy

Idea with trains sounds good: aeroexpress train to Paveletskaya (green) (40 min + 60)* - metro train (with change at Tverskaya (green) - Chekhovskaya (grey)** to Savelovskaya (20 min + 15) - aeroexpress train to Sheremetyevo (40 min + 30)***
but to do that you need to read Russian signs as minimum. it is easy to get lost on the way (esp.in metro)

Optimisticaly you can be at SVO at about 8:30 p.m. which is minimum for successful check-in
:-(

So, it is better to ask help at transit desk!!!

** - use green and gray lines as on other way (circle - gray) exchange is under reconstruction and overcrowded. http://www.metro.ru/map/2005/metro.ru-2005map-big3.gif
*** - http://www.artngroup.ru/aeroexpress/sheremetievo_ras.html (19:20 - 19:50 or 19:55 - 20:25)

P.S. 20+15 for metro is too optimistic. you can remove 19:20 train from options.
;-((( resume is the same

Agree with the previous author, at this time even taxi is quite risky. I'd use express and metro

Thanks a lot, however it does not sound too optimistic ;( eventually, I will think to sleep this day in Moscov, visit Red Square and Kremlin, Tiet. Gallery and then go to Sheremetyevo without problems (hopefully ;-) and to Uzbekistan :-)

"There is direct bus connection between airports, but between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

If I don't decided to stay in Moscow, I will try to find earlier plane to Moscow.

I failed to find any additional info about bus. :(

In any case you need a transit Russian visa. Do not forget about that.

This is it, I was not able to find any proper info about connecting airport buses also. I would not be surprised, if they do not exist any more.
Yes, taxis are very risky too - once I have almost missed my flight due to traffic.
Talking about visas, please correct me if I am wrong, but I've heard that tourists do not need Russian visas if they plan to go to Russia for no more than 3 days? I would check it with Russian consulate in your country or a travel agency.

BTW, I almost forgot, you need to think about possible delay of your flight as well. Then it will not be enough time to travel by trains, buses, taxis or whatever. The idea of staying in Moscow for one night is very good.
Also, make sure that you have rubles for trains/ buses trips/ metro, they do not take other currency. So, you need to exchange them at the Domodedovo.

Ihti, unfortunately you are wrong: tourists need Russian visas anyway -and it doesn't depend on the duration of stay. The few exeptions exist for some nationalities (like Tailand, Israel etc citizens) and for some special occasions like football events etc.

and, whilst traveling by plane, but you cannot leave the airport (and your country has to have mutual agreement with Russia)
