| Paris | Need to rent an affordable apartment this winter Posted: Fri July 4, 2008 04:27 AM UTC
Hello everyone,
My sister and I are going to Paris for the last two weeks of December and the first two weeks of January. We would like to rent an apartment. We're students on a tight budget so we're hoping to pay around 1000 euros, less if possible. A basic studio is fine, although a pull-out couch would be nice, as my husband may visit for the week after New Year's. We've both been to Paris before, and were born and raised in NYC. Any neighborhood is fine, as long as we feel safe walking home at night, and are not too far from the metro. A young, hip neighborhood, like Marais, Montemarte, or the Latin Quarter would be great, of course, but not necessary. Agencies seem to be out of our price range. Besides craigslist, are there any other ways to find an affordable apartment for this time? Also, I'm new to virtualtourist, so I'm not sure if this is common practice, but do members ever meet? We'd love to meet and converse with locals. Thanks, Noemi |

I also checked the vrbo.com website but it looks like 1000 Euros per month is not going to be enough.
Maybe www.craigslist.com has cheaper choices. Jeannette

VT members do meet - keep your eye on the VT Home Page there is often a notice of a meeting in the right hand column, and every year or so a mega meeting is held - it was in Germany this year.
I have not been to one but they do sound great fun. I almost forgot - Welcome to VT!

try http://www.centreparis.com/
they take Paypal, I have used them in the past and have another visit with them in September so they work ok for me. I think every place in Paris is supposed to be within 500m of a metro ? but even from the 15th, we just walked everywhere...no problem

Steve - this looks like an interesting useful Link. You could write it up as a TIP. Thanks.

Hi, Looks like you have a wonderful opportunity. Try this web page
www.france.com Then when you see an apartment you think is OK check on Tripadvisor.com, also try and Google up the apartmenr. Compare prices and location. Good Luck, Mike
