Nice Resturants in Old Town and things to do
Posted: Thu July 3, 2008 01:54 PM UTC
Hi

We are going to stay in Nice for a week in September but on a tight budget - can anyone suggest nice resturants to eat in which won't break the bank where locals eat is usually good. Where is good to go out at night? Also can people suggest different things to do that won't cost much.

Thanks

Just walk around and check out the menus for your taste and budget. Walk along the Rue Massena for many restaurtants and a great walk at night.

A day trip to Eze and Monaco won't cost much. The train is 6euro (approx) to Monaco and I believe the bus, which goes via Eze is a bit cheaper. I would suggest that you go by bus and come back by train. There is plenty to see walking around both places that won't cost anything.

As travelgourmet said, the Rue Massena is a pedestrian zone and you can find a few nice restaurants, including one of the best italian ones here, la villa d'este.
In the old town, just go around the streets in the afternoon and look at the menu. You have to try the socca! Google Lou Pilha Leva and try to go there.
The best way is to enter the old town outside the bus station via rue mascoinat, go down to the place rossetti, go to the place du palais de justice, and turn left on the Cours Saleya, where all the nice restaurants and bars are.
I've found this page, that has links with some reviews here on virtual tourist:

You have timed it well. From the 1st July all municipal museums in Nice are free. That includes the Chagall, the Matisse, the Modern art museum MAMAC, the Musee des Beaux Artes, the Musee Massena, and the prehistoric Terra Amata. "Free" sound cheap enough for you?

Of those, MAMAC has a circular roof terrace which gives you some of the best views of the city.
