Los Angeles California Wildfires?
Posted: Thu July 3, 2008 06:16 AM UTC
My friend and I are driving from San Francisco to Orlando. I was wondering how bad the wildfires are. We don't have much time to get to Florida. I originally planned to drive down hwy 101 to Pismo Beach and Los Angeles for a night and then continue to Las Vegas. However, I just read online that the National Guard has been called to help control the fires, so maybe I'm under-estimating them. Do you think we should just drive straight to Vegas? We will arrive July 22, 2008.

Thanks!

Highway 1 is closed this morning near Big Sur, and the town of Big Sur has been evacuated.

Your plan stays the same, Hwy 101 is the best bet. Pismo Beach is a good stop as is the Los Angeles area. But if time is a factor then stay in the Los Angeles area, either Santa Monica (beach) or Pasadena (Old Pasadena). It is about a 6 1/2-7 hour drive. Going to Las Vegas is about 4 hours from Pasadena, add 1/2 hour for Santa Monica.

Sounds great! I've been to the area numerous times, I've been in Alaska this whole summer, so I've been out of touch lol. Thanks again!
