Armenia Budget Holiday Possible?
Posted: Thu July 3, 2008 06:52 AM UTC
I have 10 days holiday that I need to use by the end of September this year. I am looking at Armenia seeing as I can get cheap flights to there from Dubai. Can anyone recommend any budget tours in Armenia and possibly Georgia? Is it very expensive there?

Basically I'm trying to figure out how to have a cheapish holiday to use up my leave in September (in a non muslim country as Ramadan will be happening) and I thought Armenia or similar could be it.

Any suggestions or hints?

hello

If you need not expansive travel, i think Georgia (and might be armenia too) is most accepteble for you. If you Decide to travel in Georgia, I can give you advice where to find cheap accomodation and where to go for good sighting.

You can fly on Armenia air from Dubai but you are probably better off flying Air Arabia from Sharjah.

I have to agree with the previous poster that Tbilisi is probably a cheaper destination than Yerevan as far as hotels are concerned. I have stayed at both cities and you can look at my page for accommodation. I have not travelled to other cities in those countries.

The New edition of Lonely planet it is out. It might be a good idea to get it. If you are into Hiking those 2 cities will offer spectacular opportunities

Thanks for the replies. I don't think that I'll be traveling independently. I would like to do a tour as I will be traveling by myself. Easier and safer. I don't think I'll be treking this time.

I would suggest that you go Dubai Festival city, to Al Magroodi book store. It has the latest edition of Lonely planet (may 2008) of Georgia Armenia and Azerbaijan. You either buy the book or spend an hour or two browsing through it. It should contain names of tour agencies in Armenia and Georgia which you can contact and find out what tours are available

Before you go to the book store call ahead and make sure they have. If they don't have ask them to check if a copy available at other branches

Hi Dear,
I have been back from Armenia 2 weeks ago.The weather was excelent
and very fresh just compair with switzerland!,But it is not much
sightseeing around.one of the best sights is Sevan lake!and another
place worth to visit is national Museum on Republic Sq.
Foods are cheap. You may find some nice local/family dinner gatherings
on a place called Dareh!
Dont forget to take an umbrella,if you dont like to walk under fresh rain!
Reg.accumodation,It not vey expencive, either. You may also find small clean
suits in good central places, next to Opera Sq. with Good prices.I paid
a two rooms, clean and modern suit with air con. and TV,60USD/night.....
Hope it helps!!
Have a nice trip and enjoy yourself.
Yours,
Mike

The company Armenia Explorer (Adventour) offers various scheduled tours in Armenia, for instance a hiling tour. You can see their web-page at http://www.armeniaexplorer.com/en/home. It is not very cheap though. Their 10 day hiking tour is almost 1200 €. I just had another tour with this company.

This is a little late, but you can rent an apartment for a good price in Yerevan, and take a different day trip every day. There are loads of day tours offered by at least a half a dozen travel agencies, so you just need to pick where you want to go, and odds are a tour will take you there that day for $10 to 30. There are even some overnight trips to Karabakh, and if you feel like taking a day off and hanging around in Yerevan, you can do so.

There are tons of places to go, including a number of UNESCO world heritage sites, so I'm sorry Mike didn't get out of Yerevan much, but don't make the same mistake...
