| Ho Chi Minh City | Please Help!!! Which hotel??? Posted: Wed July 2, 2008 12:27 PM UTC
Hi
We are planning to visit Ho Chi Minh city in Dec (6 nights) and our budget is around US$60 per day. Looking a room in a simple but clean hotel for 2 adults and a 5yr old child (no extra bedding needed). Can anyone suggest a good clean hotel in the city centre? Will appreciate your help.... Kind reagards!! |

We (3 of us) stayed at the An An 2 Hotel. 216 De Tham Street, District 1. Email: anan2hotel@vnn.vn
It had 3 single beds & cost US$36 per night. This was the most expensive hotel for our whole Vietnam trip! But it was a great location. Room safe, free internet, crisp white sheets, very clean & modern bathroom etc. So we were very happy here. Especially as it was our first stop in Vietnam. Plenty of good bars & restuarants nearby & a great place for booking tours & onward journeys. I would stay here again no problem.

Another one to consider: Bich Duyen, 283/4 Pham Ngu Lao St, HCMC. We paid US$20 a day. The manager and staff did not tout us once, very conveniently located (close to sights), in a quiet side street, clean room. Room picture among my Vietnam tips.

Both of the hotels mentioned above are in the "backpacker district" of HCMC district 1. Not where I would want to stay with my child (if I had one). Check out the Indochine Hotel on Hai Ba Trung. Excellent location and the best Thai restaurant in HCMC.

I'd be more than happy to stay with my child at the Bich Duyen. Yes, it is in the backpacker area, but as I mentioned, it is in a side alley, away from the hustle and bustle of HCMC. Wherever you stay, enjoy the experience!

Hey Lance!
Just curious, what is it about the backpacker area that worries you with bringing children?

The constant harassment by locals trying to sell you drugs or hookers. My child doesn't need to be around those types. It's impossible to even sit down for a meal in PNL without being constantly asked if you want to buy a fake Gucci wallet, travel guide book or other miscellaneous items. It's an area I avoid, but to each their own.

Never saw drugs or hookers in De Tham St. Yes - Lots of people trying to flog books but hey - they are just trying to make a living.
I wouldn't let it put me off staying here with young kids. Too many plus'es - booking tours, eating etc.

We stayed at the Huong Sen Hotel which is at 66-70 Dong Khoi Street which is in District 1. This area is in the heart of the city with easy excess to all parts of the town. When we first arrived in the street it looked like a bit of New York with the shops and buildings.
The staff and service were excellent and the food was great. I would recommend this hotel especially if you are travelling with a child. We booked via Asianrooms and had no worries

Hi all,
Thanks so much for all the replies. I have checked them all and sent e-mails to them. But few hasn't got back to me me. Mean while I received an offer from hotel Ha Hein and thinking about confirming it. Do any of you know this hotel? Any idea which part of the city this is in? As long as it's in a safe area I'm not worried :-) Thanks again
