Sicilia at what time is everything?
Posted: Wed July 2, 2008 08:39 AM UTC
Hello all!
We are going to Sicily in September and it is our first time there. I wonder about "proper" time to have lunch or dinner there. I think that being so south and with warm temperatures, it may be similar to my country(Spain) so late dinners and not early lunches...but I may be completly wrong.

Many europen tourists come to our restaurants to have lunch at hours that we are almost finishing our breakfast, so I would like to know how it is there.

Thank you very much.

I think you won't have problem going to lunch at 2pm and to dinner at 10pm, at least in most places. of course, they are used to tourist, so they may start before... but end much later with kitchen service.
Ciao

Hours are just like Spain - late lunches and dinner at 10 will be no problem for you. How could it be otherwise with a history of centuries of Arab and Spanish rule? The only people in restaurants before 9 at night are (non-Spanish)tourists.

Agree with the others. Being a heathen Australian we usually lunch "with the family" (the restaurant at 1.00pm and often have dinner with them as well ! In other words, we stick to our times. However no one else arrives for lunch before 2.00pm of for dinner before 9.00pm.

They are flexible. Beware of restaurant opening and closing days and the lack of action everywhere in shops between 1.00pm and 4.00pm. I imagine Spain might have had the same issue but its changing. Not in Sicily !

Hi we are back from Sicily and we have had a great time. Only one thing we regret, we couldn´t see Mount Etna because there was always clouds around it.

I wanted to post this message to thank you all the vters who helped us with our questions before our trip. Some of the advices we got were really helpfull, and one of the best hotel we booked in the island was thanks to one of the posts.

So, thank you.
