Just been reading the forum about getting into town from Newark...would it be cheaper for 3 of us (with luggage) to get a taxi to our Apartment (hopefully in Midtown east) or a Shuttle Bus?

The Air Train offers connecting service to NJ Transit and Amtrak trains which will bring you into Manhattan. Surprisingly, this can actually be much quicker than taking a cab or bus, and it is much more affordable. $11.55 one way will bring you from Newark Airport to Penn Station. AirTrain connects the NJ Transit "Newark Airport Station" to the airport terminals.

Taxis: Metered fare (plus tolls) to any Manhattan location, approximately $40-$55. Taxis are available outside of every terminal

Newark Liberty Airport Express : Available from 4:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m., these shuttles leave every 15-30 minutes for midtown Manhattan and every 2 hours to downtown Manhattan (from 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.). One-way fare is $13, but you can save by buying roundtrip tickets, as they are $22.

Super Shuttle: Available 24 hours a day, this shuttle provides door to door service for your party. Fares are $15 - $19.

Definitely take the Air Train. It's cheap, fast and roomy even with all your luggage. We stopped off at Penn Station which is right in the heart of Manhattan, opposite the Ramada New Yorker. You could then get a taxi to your destination.

Presumably you're coming off a long flight. Do yourself a favor and either take a taxi or hire a car service (Dial7.com). It will only cost a little more. Do not take Super Shuttle... too many bad experiences.

Everything usatravels says is true...but since there are three of you, it will be hardly any more expensive for the three of you to share a taxi into town...think about it...the train is $11.55 each, so $34.15 plus your taxi fee from Penn Station to your final destination - so the total can easily be over $45.

Or you can - as another VTer suggested - just take the taxi all the way from the airport (i.e., minimum hassles) to your destination in Manhattan for $55 or so.

I agreee to skip the bus...the extra amount of time you waste carting other people around isn't worth the few dollars you would save...

If I were you, I would definitely take the NJ train (Amtrak costs twice as much). Taxis are expensive and you could get stuck in traffic.
