Are fresh lobsters available in Maine all year round? If so, do the prices go up in the summer?

You have a great answer in the previous post. Regardless of the "world wide" offerings, there is nothing to compare to a "Maine Lobster" in it's peak. My former "home" in Bristol NH has (or had) an annual Lobster feed in July/August with fresh harvested lobsters steamed in seaweed. Ahhhh....

When we lived in Maine (1992-1995), lobstah was cheapah in the summah. There was a place by the dock that sold them suckas. Then they sold for about $3.50 per lobster, average size (can't remember weight). I would fix them two or three times a week that the kids got sick of them. Our last summer there, I fed it to them much more often that they threatened to boycott my dinners!

Here in Germany, I have to trade one of them kids for a whiff of them!

Lobster is cheaper in the summer because the fishing conditions (weather) makes catching them easier (although no one would call this an easy job), so there are more people lobstering and more price competition.
Whether restaurants in tourist areas jack up their prices in general during the summer is another question.

Ringht on, Ex-Mainer. A Mainer friend who is now in her early 70s told us that when she was a little girl they used to pick up lobsters on the beach. She also told us that in the 1800s when beef was really expensive and reserved for the wealthy citizens, the servants would stipulate in their contracts not to be fed seafood, especially lobsters, more than three times a week. I guess the masters try to feed them lobsters everyday if they could get away with it. How times have changed.

You should see the house we lived in. The servant's quarter is facing the water, the master bedroom facing the street. Needless to say, we took up the servant's quarter as it was awesome to wake up to the sunrise and the view of Bagaduce river. We figured the water side of the house must be colder in the winter. The house was built in 1876, and even when we lived in it, was not adequately insulated.
