I'm currently in Xi'an, China, and I'm looking on organizing a tour to Lhasa by train for a few days, then going overland to Nepal. I've been looking around left and right, and this type of tour IS POSSIBLE, the lowest I've been quoted is around 5000 Yuan per person. If we get more than two people together, the price is sure to drop.

It's tough as nails to go independently these days. You need a guide and an itinerary to even get in. So, unless you want to hitchhike, it looks like all us Tibet travellers need to band together. Anybody interested? Send me a message.

(Note: I'd be happy to start in Chengdu. If you're in Beijing, perhaps we should meet in Xining? I hear trains are easier to catch over there.)

Did you get people to go to tibet with you yet? i'm thinking of travelling there aswell. I'm in Xinjang at the moment, but wi'' be leaving for Xinning in a few days. any advice you have would be greatly appriciated.

I'm going it alone (so far) Sept14 for about 3 weeks. Hoping to take in Mt Everest Base Camp and perhaps head to Kathmandu.
I'm trying to figure out permits and costs right now...hoping also to do this budget. Tent, sleeping bag, and all.

Anyone game? It's a two-person tent but the more the merrier.

Im planning the same trip.....how are you pulling this off??? I hear there are very tight restrictions on independant travel (ive phoned countless agencies even tibet public security). Individuals MUST go on a tour, if not....no permit. You said your doing this on a budget, have you got permits to go to base camp? Are you doing this through an agency? Your feedback would be very appreciated, cause frankly....im tearing my hair out trying to organise this trip. Im trying to do it on a tight budget but i cant see that a possibility these days. Your staying 3 weeks? is that a 3 week tour? how will you possibly tent it??
