| Bergamo | bergamo and lake como weekend break Posted: Mon June 30, 2008 06:35 PM UTC
hello dudes i am arriving in bergamo on saturday for a suprise trip with my girlfriend and i wanted to ask some of you bergamo experts a load of questions.
firstly the b&b im am staying at the il celigio is in via crocefisso? says that it is about 3.5 k from town and 9.5 k from the airport any idea of the kind of taxi fare i would be looking at to get to the b&b? also any ideas for a romantic resturaunt in bergamo that wont break the bank ,how much will a nice meal and some wine come to ? and any idea of somewhere for a nice walk after . also i am intending to catch the train to lecco and take some boat trips maybee from there tpo varenna then bellagio and lenno for the villa where they filmed startwars (looks romantic) i have tried the boat and ferry websites but cant figure out the fares any clues or guides people? or would it be easier to get the train to lecco and boat trip from there again price anyone? i will return to sleep back in bergamo that night so i think i will get a lot in but hopefully not be to rushed . any help would be greatly appriciated . thanks |

I can't reply to all your questions but I will tell you my opinion about a restaurant and a walk after dinner.
The restaurant I always suggest is La Colombina in the upper town, I think a normal meal with wine will cost something like 20/30 euros per person (I mean first dish, main dish + side dish, wine, water and coffee, of course if you eat less than that you'll pay less) La colombina is here (copy and paste in your browser) http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=it&geoc Nothing is easier than a romantic walk after the dinner because you'll be in the heart of the upper town which is the most romantic place in Bergamo. I think you'll enjoy a walk along the Venician Walls. Enjoy Bergamo, Sergio

Just back from Varenna (5th visit) and would like to make a few suggestions.
Don't take a ferry from Lecco, instead catch a connecting train to Varenna of which there are approx 2 an hour. Reasons listed below. 1) That leg of the lake is not very picturesque 2) The station in Lecco is not particulaurly close to the ferry terminal 3) The ferries from Lecco are infrequent 4) Varenna ferry teminal is 5 minutes from the train staion. Last and most important, Varenna is part of what the ferry operaters call Centro Lago or Centre Lake and includes Mennagio, Bellagio, Caddeabia, Tremezzo and Lenno. You can buy a dayticket at the ferry terminal which will give you unlimited travel between these towns for about €6. There is in fact a boat which does nothing but go to these towns all day. You can stay on all day if you want. This ticket would not be able to be purchased from Lecco. For train times just go to http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html and key in Bergamo for departure and Varenna as detination click the word DETAILS on the solution you're interested in and the full journey details will be revealed.A return ticket from Bergamo to Varenna will cost about €9. Varenna itself is beautiful and worth spending some time in. Have a great trip. Billy

Oh, I forgot!
It's better to reserve a table for the week end. So if you choose La colombina, here is the number: +39 035 261402 (closed on monday and tuesday)

Totally agree with Juzz about restaurant "La Colombina"; ask for a table on the "terrazza": great view.
About taxi fare, it should be about 20 euro. If you don't have big luggage, you can take the bus n. 1 from the airport to the city center (Porta Nuova); then the bus n. 7 or n. 9 to via Crocefisso. Enjoy your trip!

Bobino for a meal? I didn't know!
As far as I know Bobino is more famous for a fashinable after dinner. But anyway if you say so it must be like that!
