| Rome | Rome Apartments: Piazza Navona or Campo de' Fiori? Posted: Mon June 30, 2008 06:03 PM UTC
Hello:
My husband, 2 sons (ages 11 and 6) will be traveling to Rome for 3 days in August. Based on advice we have gotten so far, we have located apartments in the Campo de’ Fiori and the Piazza Navona area. Is one of those areas better than the other? The addresses we are looking at are as follows: Via Giulia Vicolo delle Vacche Via dei Cartari Vicolo Febo 2 Via dei Leutari 28 Largo del Pallaro Via de Giubbonari If you have any specific thoughts about these, please let me know. Thank you. |

The areas around Piazza Navona are very busy at night. So if you want some quiet after a long day siteseeing, you may want to consider Camp d' Fiore. I prefer the area around Piazza Navona, both just East (Pantheon area) and just West. Remember that the two places are only a 5-7 minute walk apart. Karl

I prefer Campo dei Fiori for the ambience and the market. There are much better restaurants in Campo dei Fiori than in Piazza Navona which I find overpriced and the food isn't very good. Happy travels

I'm not sure where all those streets are, but via Guilia is one of the prettiest streets in Rome. We read about it on a walking tour guide and so made a point of finding it and walking the length. It is beautiful and actually very quiet. We saw mostly Romans walking home or shopping. It is an easy walk to most of central Rome (which is very compact and walkable).

I do agree with azz that the restaurants in Piazza Navona are overpriced and the food is mediocre. I avoid eating there at all costs. However, one of our favorite places to eat is The Old Bear (on my VT Rome page) just a 3 minute walk N of Piazza Navona. As Beau said, via Guilia is absolutely gorgeous, however, I walked down early, early in the morning and no one was out yet. I haven't a clue what it is like once life starts. Karl
