Cook Islands Some questions from Barcelona (Spain) - Safaty and Acommodation
Posted: Mon June 30, 2008 04:28 PM UTC
Hello.

We are preparing a trip to New Zealand, and we want to spend 6 or 7 days in Cook Islands, 2 days in Rarotonga and 4-5 days in Aitutaki. We’ll go with 6 and 8 years old kids.
Sorry if my question is stupid, but Cook Islands are very far from Spain and I don’t have enough information: We have read some blogs about different kinds of “dangerous” animals: stonefish, snakes, water snakes, sea cucumbers, sandflies, etc It’s true? It’s a safe place for small kids?

Another question, in this case about accommodation: We are thinking in staying in “Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa” in Aitutaki and in “Muri Beach Resort” in Rarotonga. Somebody knows? Can you give some opinion?

And finally, can you give some general recommendation about Cook Islands: What to do? What to see? ... with kids

Thank you very much

Hi Carlos
I can't give you specific info about your accommodation choices, but having stayed at the Sunrise Beach Bungalows just "around the corner" from Muri, I'd stay you won't be disappointed with the locale.

I had only a day trip to Aitutaki, but it's a beautiful unspoiled paradise, and you'll love it!

I never met any dangerous animals in my week in the Cooks - I'd be surprised if you did either. It's a safe place for kids - there are lots of local kids around, and as you'll be there during school holidays, they'll probably be everywhere! Rarotonga, the main island is not very big. I suggest you hire a car so you can drive yourselves right around the island and see the sights. Or if your kids are old enough, rent a moped or bicycle.

There's not a lot to "do", but swimming and snorkelling should be enough anyway. If you get a chance to go to a Rarotongan "island night" be sure to do that. Good food and entertainment.

Enjoy!
Roger
