The only thing hot and happening about the area around that hotel is the huge one way street traffic jams and the massive wholesale clothing market.
A better location might be in Siam or Silom.

Why not choose a hotel on Sukhumvit Road. You will be close to street vendors, travel agencies for tours, bars, restaurant, malls, supermarkets and best of all close to the Skytrain route!

How much do you want to spend on your hotels? Hotels (with air and private toilet) in this area run from around 600 baht on up to 6000 baht.

Here is a link to some hotels.

Skytrain route.

If you want a hotel that is NOT so convenient to bars and nightlife but right on a Skytrain stop you can check out the Asia Hotel. (Asia Hotel is real close to shopping on Phetchaburi Road.)

Have fun.

Indra Regent Hotel - not Intra Regent Hotel. No wonder I couldn't find it.

We recently came back from Bangkok. We stayed at the Dusit Hotel which is located at one of the prime areas in Bangkok, it called SUKHUMVIT ROAD,however after 3-4 nights at Dusit Hotel which is a pretty fancy hotel, right across it is these small "Inn" called Sam's Inn, we told ourselves that the next time we come back to Bangkok, we shall stay at these place Sam's Inn, as they people (English travelers) we met on the sky train invited us to their room and it was fairly nice, clean and it as 24 hours use of their internet which they provide their guests. The cost is 1/3 of what we were paying at Dusit Hotel and does not provide internet for your computer use ....So, we would advise you if you are looking for a clean, safe location to walk around during late nights with 3 minutes walk to the sky train, 24 hours access on a tuk-tuk, and more money for your shopping, we would suggest to stay at Sam's Inn - right on SUKHUMVIT ROAD. There is no point of our staying at Dusit Hotel as the only time we are at the hotel is when we need to call a day and off we go and paint the town red and do our touring and happy shopping. Intra Regent Hotel is okay, but that is a whole saler place and the sky train is few blocks away, with the kind of very high humidity and hot weather now a days in Bangkok, we would suggest shorter walks to the public transportation. Have a great time in Bangkok! We love Bangkok! and please do not forget to eat the ripe sweetest mangos in the whole wide world! Any of their fruits are but as sweet as "HONEY" and we are not kidding, the soil in Bangkok is awfully fertile and fruits are super cheap as well as meals are super affordable! Have a grand time in Bangkok! Cheers to all!

I just found newly-opened hostel in Silom area called "www.istayhq.com". It's right on Silom road with plenty of foods, shopping and nightlife activities. The place is too cool to be a hostel too!! Highly recommended. Check it out.

With the skytrain, virtually anywhere on Sukhumvit is fairly good. Though I've heard that there's a lot of happening clubs around Ekkamai soi 55, but things change often in Bangkok so that may not be any more.
