Tibet Tibet & china
Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 11:53 PM UTC
Hello,

in 3 week we will hopefully visit Tibet & then we will go to Shanghai. Concerning the visa, our travel agent sais that he can provide us beside Tibet permit also an extension of visa to Mainland China, the visa released by the Chienese embassy will be cancelled in Kathmandu. Is that true ? If by this time Tibet will be close again, can we easily obtain a viasa in Kathamndu for China ? Or would it be safe to get a visa here in Belgium, in order to avoid problems ?

Thanks
Dolores

To avoid the visa problem perhpas consider not crossing over to Kathmandu (Nepal) and stay on the Chinese side. If you cross over then you will need new Chinese visa to re-enter.

Until now, you can not get your Chinese Visa in Kathmandu. You also can't enter Tibet from Nepal now. Also, I suggest you to apply your Chinese Visa in your country as long as your duration in China. To extend the Visa in Tibet or in mainland China is complicated and takes time.

Suggest you to apply for a visa in your home country. While fillingin application form never say "visit to Tibet". If you say Tibet, either you may not get it or you will be asked many questions.

After reaching mainland China, then apply for Tibet permit (more prefereable at Chengdu).

In Kathmandu they will not give you both Tinet permit and chinese visa.
If you have chinese visa already from your home country and if you apply for a Tibet permit at Kathmandu, then your Chinese visa will be cancelled.
