| North America | NEW ENGLAND VACATION IDEAS Posted: Sun June 29, 2008 05:18 PM UTC
My husband and I are planning a trip end of September / early October. We land in Boston and have no destinations in mind. We enjoy road trips, day hikes, seeing wildlife, getting off the beaten track, interesting places to stay (not camping), viewing places of natural beauty, we love visiting both National and State Parks. Our maximum daily mileage is around 250 miles. Does anyone have any ideas of places to visit (and / or places to stay)?

I agree with the above poster. I would highly recommend Maine. It is wonderful and October should be a nice time to visit. Depending on when the leaves change this year, you might want to look into accommodations before you leave. It can get crowded when the leaves peak. You can hike in the mountains or along the coast. There are some great parks to hike in. There are some beautiful lighthouses to visit too. I love the view from this park: http://www.state.me.us/cgi-bin/doc/parks/find_one_
