Thank You.

As we are from Malaysia, we can't speak or read japanese. If we don't follow tour, i'm afraid we will not know how to get around. Would you mind giving an idea on where to visit and also what mode of transport to take. Also where to stay so we will be able to get to station without ant problem. Will appreciate if you all can name me the places to visit, how to go there and also where to stay. Any good and cheap japanese food ? how about hotel ?

Why don't you travel in Kyushu region including Fukuoka where has direct flights from Singapore?
I can help you whatever you want such as making itinerary, booking accommodations as well as providing tourist information.

Hello Adehong,

and Hello to Masa (Long time no chat)!!

I'm a Malaysian who lives in Brunei. I also speak no Japanese, and I manage to travel from North to South of Japan by myself. Most places has sign in English.. you just need to know one Japanese word - > "DOKO" = Where? and a Map, and Body Language!

You need to give us more info like wat u like to see and how long you will be in Japan for us to suggest you an itinerary. You may wanna visit my blog for places, hotels and food i had in Japan - http://blacksnail.wordpress.com/category/japan/

Your question is a bit vague but don't worry about getting around. There are plenty of signs in 'romaji'. Also, ticket offices at major train stations etc. will more than likely have somebody who can speak English
As for cheap and good Japanese food, that should also be no problem. I don't think I had a bad meal anywhere in Japan and it's not expensive either. For cheapness, there are usually a lot of cheap but good places to eat in and around train stations and shopping malls.

Hi,

I also speak no Japanese. I found it easiest to carry a small writing pad and to write down my question in English. Many Japanese that don't speak English can read it - and they are usually more than willing to help. Nice people!

I also travel on a tight budget. I found it quite possible in Japan.
You may like to see my travel pages, Japan, for some tips.

There are many local grocery stores ("kombini"). They all sell "obento" - lunch boxes - for little money. Also instant noodles in many flavours.

Green tea is free in most restaurants and hotels.

Nikko is a nice day trip outside of Tokyo. You can use local buses or take an organized bus tour. Also Kamakura - can travel with local train, very inexpensively. Kyoto, if you use the Puratto Kodama Economy Plan is a lovely day trip too, although it is better to make it an overnight if possible. Do visit the Sensoji Temple - entrance free, use local buses to get there.

For exact details on travel - which bus or train to use - look at www.japan-guide.com The forum there is also very good.

Have fun!
