| Cairo | Studying in Cairo Posted: Sat June 28, 2008 07:50 AM UTC
Hello
I am female British Muslim, travelling to Cairo in October to study Arabic at the Fajr Centre. I would like to know if anyone has knowledge of Fajr centre and if it is a good place to study? They have a branch in Nasr City which I will attend, insha'allah and I would like to live nearby there. Is this a safe area for a single female to live? Does anyone know the best area in Cairo for a single female to live which is not too expensive. Thank you! |

Generally speaking Cairo is very very safe. Nasr City is good place to live and it is a safe area. For how long are you planing to stay in Cairo. A long term rent is cheaper. There are areas cheaper than Nasr city but traffic is always an issue. a cheap place close to Nasr city would be Almashrooa Alswissrie :-) or the Swiss Project
Do you have the Address of Fajr centre so perhaps we can tell you more about the specific area. Good luck

Nasr city is not recommended place to stay, lots of harrassment and I heard lots of negative things about Al Fajr, there are a couple of other ones ILI and Kalimat, that are much more reliable

Have heard of Fajr centre but never met one of their student. Have been told that Kalimat is not that good. ILI is excellent but not cheap.
Cairo as a whole is perfectly safe. So is Nasr city, except that they rarely see white people there so you might be the subject or more attention than elsewhere. Also be aware that Nasr city is quite far from the centre, and that no expats live there. Which also means it should be cheaper.
